Toshiba's Head Mounted Display

At least it'll work great as a astronaut costume for Halloween

At the Society for Information Display conference during early June, Toshiba presented a novel hyper-reality display called Head Dome Projector. The projector consisted of a compact dome-shaped screen with a radius of 40cm, a mobile projector with ultra-wide projection lens, and LED light sources.

The system exhibits a wide viewing angle of 120 degrees horizontally by 70 degrees vertically without head tracking, and 360 degrees x 360 degrees with head tracking. We assume the head tracking feature is afforded by the fact that it sits right over your head.

We've been wondering for months what this contraption looks like, and today our questions are (somewhat) answered by a photo from the Daily Mail.

I'm convinced this shouldn't be in the Graphics Cards forum, rather the Humor forum, haha. This thing is a JOKE! (If it's for real...)

It must get hot in there. Also, personally I'd never put my head in that thing I couldn't wan't Luke Skywalker appearing behind me and slicing my head off :[!
