Roccat Warning, Stay Away.

So I just got my 2nd Roccat Ryos MK Pro keyboard, Black switch mechanical and it was going great.

The first one had a faulty LED so I sent it back and got a replacement and now this one has also developed a faulty LED.

The mouse I got a month ago "Kone XTD" has also developed a fault but the headset "Kave 5.1" is remaining sturdy.

I've talked to quite a few other people who have bought Roccat products, Mainly in Germany, And apparently the issue is that Roccat are using sub standard LED's in their mechanical keyboards, I only know this as a friend of mine in Berlin works for one of their distributors, Berlins version of OCUK.

Again this is just a friendly warning to my fellow enthusiasts as to avoid Roccat at least for the time being, I myself have switched over to a Corsair K95 which should be arriving in the morning, Which I should of done in the first place.

When i saw this thread i already knew it was you. That intuition baby.
That's a second marriage failed

Well then. Kinda thought it would be you ;)
Here I am using a rapidly aging Sidewinder x4 which has come into contact with some whiskey and the lights still work. £40. In all honesty anything that lights up will break but still, Roccat are on my avoid list now.

Get a ducky keyboard, you can get LED ones and they seem to be stupidly well made.

Seriously man next time I'm signing a pre-nup lol ^_^

Become a big fan of a brand you've used for years, not minutes ;)

I'll try my hand at this Corsair K95 arriving in the morning, If that goes arse over tits I'll try a ducky :)

had some roccat peripherals a while ago. didn't really like them. the headset, same as you have, sounds pretty bad imo and broke after like 2 months

Leopold. Those keyboards are rigid as heck.
I'll never buy a keyboard again which has gaming in the name or in the advertisement, it's all crap.

Don't forget game themed ones (e.g. that battlefield 4 set). Thats never a good idea.

to be fair, the steelseries 6gv2 has pretty much the same quality as the Leopold ones. both can be an effective murder weapon.

but i can defenitely recommend Leopold keyboards, loving mine

LEDs are pretty much guaranteed to fuck up sooner than later. If i want some colors on my keyboard i will get colored keycaps.
Peripherals sponsored by games or esport teams make you look like a moron, especially when the team/game turns out to suck balls.
Gaming mice and monitors are usually okay, even though i'd never buy a mouse with more than 2 buttons on the side, also monitors with a high refresh rate are pretty much bound to be called gaming monitors. Gaming keyboards and gaming headsets i will never touch again.

TBH the MW3 themed Logitech keyboards were fantastic value 6 months after MW3, £30 for a £70 keyboard is a decent deal, even if they do say MW3 on them. My Plantronics stuff is gaming themed and fantastic however they're an exception in this case.
I'd say stay away from any company that makes just gaming peripherals, this is companies like TTe (Thermaltake)and Razer.

I wouldn't dare to besmirch my setup with MW3 themed peripherals.
I heard the Plantronics stuff is good, i didn't get around to test any of their headphones though. I'm good with my DT990 + FiiO e10, which is obviously in a different price category, but price/performance kings never really have the zing.

Plantronics is fantastic for budget stuff. I own one of their cheaper headsets as well as their top of the range headset. Really decent stuff although the cheaper headset is probably a bit better in everything except mic quality and build quality at the mo'. Supposedly the expensive headset is much better with an amp however I still need to get one that works with windows 7 :(

I try not to fanboy a set of products but rather stick with something I know they do well.

Logitech have always made mice i've loved: MX518, now using a g500 and considering moving to a G602

Corsair for cases: admittedly i'm using an NZXT at the mo but corsair is always my first choice.

Keyboards: I've long been considering a ducky when the expendable income should allow.

FiiO e10. No drivers needed, plug it in and it will work.

I love my Duckys, my old K90 too.

Only ever had a Roccat Kone and that developed a double click effect just outside of warranty, guess it wasn't used enough inside the years period. :sigh:

Ive got the Steelseries APEX (Actually 2 now) I bought one awhile back (like august 2013) and after playing around with the colors, I discovered it has an error..(a few actually) The colors dont match from the different parts of the keyboard. Meaning, set them all orange, and only 2 parts look orange, the others.. kind reddish. Same with some blues etc. So i contacted them. They said to return it.. at my expense! no way.. not paying to return something thats faulty. So, I was about to go buy one at bestbuy and return mine (lol) when they said they were just going to send me another. Well, that worked for me.
I got it... the SAME issue? contacted them again and told them exactly how to re-produce it. Turns out that EVERY single APEX board has this problem! fault resistors or something. They told me to keep it for now and they would let me know when they were fixed so I could get a replacement.
4 months later - no response.

Thats the only thing wrong.. the keyboard itself is good (its not mechanical) and works fine. The macro recording is terrible and doesnt have much flexibility. (recorded pauses in keypresses LOCK the keyboard!)

So.. I would NOT recommend them due to the poor customer service and not the best design.

They are making an APEX 2 thats full mechanical, but thats going to be like $230. I'll pass.
