RMA this G.Skill RAM

Hey guys, so I recently bought this 32gb RAM kit for THIS motherboard, but I just decided to upgrade MOTHERBOARDS to this Asus HERO.
I filed an RMA for the RAM kit so I can get some RAM that is better suited for the HERO. But the question is, what kind of RAM do I want for an i7 4770k, that goes into a Asus Max Hero?

I have no idea what I need. should I RMA this ram, and get 2 sticks = 16gb or get 4 sticks 32gb?
Or will the RAM I just bought be good enough for the new MOBO? Other than the fact that it's blue, and the MOBO is RED.

Thanks guys! Only have a couple days left to send this out to make it back to newegg in time for the RMA

wait so the ram isnt faulty?

Although I don't know how to fully test the RAM, it shows up in "My computer" as 32 gb of RAM. I just figured that there would maybe be RAM better suited for the new CPU and MOBO I am getting, is this true or am I way off base. It's 1866, is that slow?

First things first - you've upgraded motherboards from Z68 to Z87? I assume you've upgraded your processor too since they run on a different socket?

Also, what premise are you returning the RAM under? Faulty, or just within a 14 day return window?

Yes, I'll be upgrading do a Z87 + an i7 4770k very soon.

I am RMA'ing it back under the premise that it's not going to work with my new MOBO. Which I actually don't know.. That's what I'm trying to figure out,, I want the best ram I should have.
For one, I heard that you shouldn't OC your CPU with more than 4 sticks of ram.

Right, the RAM will work fine on the new motherboard.

The OCing your CPU with 4 sticks of RAM thing is rubbish really. It can be harder to reach maximum overclocks with lots of RAM (ie, suicide runs on CPUs), but for normal user overclocks 4 sticks will be perfectly fine.

What will you be using the PC for? Chances are you won't need 32GB of RAM. However, it will work fine with the new motherboard so it's actually fraudulent to return it with that as the reason. I'd also imagine Newegg would ask which motherboard you're upgrading to, and then just tell you it would work anyway.

I run my PC for High-End Gaming/Video Editing/Music Producing.

That's the other thing, I doubt I'd need 32gb of RAM aswell, so maybe I can recoup some of that money to help pay for other things.. Newegg immediately accepted the RMA ( but they are taking 50$ for restocking fee ) so I'd only be getting 288$ back when I spent 349 for it to get to me..

If I just keep this RAM, is it bad to paint over the BLUE on it so it matches everything else? (RED)?

And do you think I should go with the HERO or the RAMPAGE?

Edit: Don't I need 2400mhz RAM instead??
