Pressing "F" is in reference to a scene form Call of Duty Advanced Warfare, Your character at the funeral of his friend is prompted to "press F to pay respects" which has spiralled into a meme.

Antivirus will not protect you from severe backdoors or vulnerabilities found since the final round of security update, new definitions and threat detections for defender are one thing, but any newly discovered flaw or security issue that could give hackers access to your system will not be patched, hence av software being less then ideal for this.

If you have a dedicated firewall and an insanely locked down network process you'd be fine remotely, but doesn't mean you're invulnerable.

Still using Vista here now and again as well as W7, nothing worth stealing AFAIK and restoring a backup should fix any unpleasantness. Weird how Vista still keeps notifying me there are updates available.
Not spending ~$130 each for more W10 OS's while they work fine as they are for my needs. So not missed for now but eventually they will become obsolete.

Yeah you can use a legit Windows 10 install with no license with fewer annoying notifications than those update messages. If you're a student you can usually get a free copy or a hefty discount, or third party keys can be found in the region of £10-£30.
If you're only using it for a gaming PC that never does anything else and mostly plays older games then I guess you can do whatever but if you're actually doing anything involving any kinds of payments or sensitive details or work you should probably stop using an OS that's almost old enough to vote.

If you don't want W10, going Linux is the better option than sticking to abandonware. Most Dx11 titles work well on penguinland, though anticheats and DRM don't often work.
Outside gaming it's a mixed story as well, if you need MS office or Adobe suite, it's not the best platform. But tools for listening music, organising music libraty and amateur photography are IMO better on Linux, especially compared to free alternatives on Windows.
Important bit is still receiving security updates and also stuff like latest codecs and so forth.

I'll be honest I have not used it in several years.
I packed it in when Core Parking was an issue in 7 and moved onto 8. So that would have been about when I had my FX 8320 to give you a rough idea.
Not looked back since. I was one of the few who liked Windows 8 with the Start button.

I take your point, however, I have everything worthwhile backed up not connected to my pc or network so even if I got ransomwared it wouldn't really matter.

You me both mate. Problem was that 8 was too much of a change for people to handle; for all the UI complaints, 8 was very stable under the hood which is what matters in an OS
