So it is confirmed and my Sabertooth is boxed up ready for RMA. Luckily Old Faithful (Crosshair Formula III) still works as if she were new. Maybe I should get a Crosshair V? Oh well, I assume I will get it back in about a month.

RIP!

What happened to it?

I am in a debate right now of whether to replace my M5A97 with a Sabertooth or Crosshair.

Sorry to hear about your lose. My condolences to you and your family in this time of lose and grief. It's never easy to lose one so young, with so much left to experience.

Asus take ages to RMA, 1 year ago had to RMA my rampage II extreme and it took just over 2 months for me to get it back

I have not got the faintest idea what happened. The motherboard still turns on, but whatever video card i put in it will not register, i get the red VGA error light. So if their was a fix in the BIOS it would not matter because I was not able to see anything anyways.

Copper to copper, silicon to silicon...

Sure it wasn't your monitor btw? (I doubt it would be but worth checking)

The same thing happened using 2 different monitors and all the different ports on the 6990. An I doubt it was a discharge of any sorts, it's not acting as if that were the issue. Motherboards these days have some interesting safety features so if that were to happen generally the motherboard wont turn on or you get some really interesting beep code. This seemed to be a flaw in the ASUS design of the board, because this motherboard goes through some check which I believe to be flawed. Beep messages will not occur until the check has run it's course which to me seems to be backwards. In order for the sabertooth to show anything on the monitor it must pass the VGA check which to is flawed. So chances are the BIOS was posting but because the VGA failed i was not able to see it.
