Review: Razer Blackwidow Ultimate

I personally have had poor experiences with razer products.

Minus my mouse pad which I love. But others I've used all seemed like cheap toys.. to me at least.

My view of Razer is that their products work great until they break, and they will break. But when it comes to the Blackwidow is seems really solid, weighs a lot, which for a mechanical keyboard is a good thing because it probably means it has some metal girders, plates or a giant oak log to reinforce it.

I do understand what you mean by cheap toys. Glossy plastic while looks all nice is really annoying to maintain.

Good review, I just bought one

I'm excited to start using it soon.

IMO it's the nicest looking mechanical keyboard that can be used in the dark (has backlighting)

Nice review

. I don't like the glossy finish though, it looks good, but because I'm a greasy guy (lol), it would be a pain to clean (for me).

Well, there's also a Mionix Zibal 60 which is mechanical Cherry MX Blacks, non-gloss finish and green back lighting. It has a wrist rest and 'Rage proof durability'. Something you might want to consider if you want a mechanical keyboard with backlighting.

@Zeals: I've already got a G510, I was considering the Blackwidow, but after some careful consideration I thought the G510 was the better option for a sweaty guy like me.

well typing on this keyboard is pretty nice, but it took a while to figure it out (i was only used to typing on laptops for the past couple of years) for this keyboard to feel right you have to push the keys straight down, now i know this sounds obvious but for example the space bar i usually push it a bit towards the keys, or the number 1 i usually push it towards the f-keys slightly due to hand hand position and this causes friction somewhere on the keys and they become harder to press.

Overall its really nice, the lighting is super, the only thing is that its really loud and you don't notice quite HOW loud until you go type on a laptop again

lol i was shocked that i got used to it because when i was back on my laptop i heard nothing when i was typing haha

i had a razor/microsoft reclusa keyboard that was great till the space bar broke.

i still have my razor lachesis mouse which has lasted over 2 years now i did try to get my reclusa fixed via warrenty but it was out by 6 months which i was pretty gutted about i now have a confert curve keyboard that does the job

Hmm I was thinking of getting a Steelseries 7G but this keyboard has caught my interested, going to read some more reviews.

If they sold the Minoix in Australia I would probably buy one for my friend's birthday and borrow it for a little review

Just an update, my Blackwidow Ultimate just randomly and suddenly died on the 26th of January and I've been trying to fix it with no success. That is 7 days after the warranty expired that it 'self-destructed'.
