Sounds like a really solid build to me the only changes I would make are the ram at least 1866 speed and the HDD a WD black

Yeah, switch to a WD Blue or Black (not much difference tbh, I prefer Blues cause they're cheaper).

Other than that, if it's just for BF4 at 1080 you are overspending. If you don't mind, then by all means this is a solid build, but you could easily get 2x4GB RAM, a GTX 970 and a much cheaper motherboard and get away with it. Although I'm not sure the GTX970 will quite reach 144FPS on Ultra settings in some maps.

Either way, with that power supply you can easily add another of either of the cards later if you want to :)
I would bump the cooling up to a dual 120mm (so 240mm) radiator though, which shouldn't cost much more and will drastically improve looks, and give a little better cooling.

All depends what AMD you are switching from. If it's an FX 8 then to conclusively beat it you will need a I7. It's even more pronounced that you play BF4 which absolutely loves a core or 8.

Ram speed? I'm one of those who doesn't find it interesting, but you can usually get faster ram for around abouts the same money so why not.

I wouldn't buy a 980. Not now. Not with the AMD 390/X coming in a couple of months which will bring about the real high end Maxwell at the same price as the 980. I would go for a cheap 290 and hold on for a bit. You can get them second hand for anything between £100 and £150 for a decent one.

I wouldn't normally say hold on but you've seen for yourself just how much faster the Titan X is over the 980 so it's well worth holding out for that sort of performance for your £500 or so.

As I say though, all depends on what AMD you have. Can you be more specific?

to be honest if you just get a faster GPU and overclock the cpu a bit you'll be fine in BF4. AMD cpus do very well in BF4.
