Carrying on from the talk in the chat box tonight, just thought I would make a topic about it.

What do you guys think should be added to the new server in which Jim has been kind enough to get.

Core i7 people!!

Here is my ideas.

  1. FTP for members with certain amount of posts.
  2. New themes to choose for the forum.
  3. Maybe OC3D official shop, like TTL does maybe you could list possibilities of things you can do for people.
  4. More video reviews

  • Case modding
  • Installation of hardware
  • Watercooling kit installation
  • Personal recommended step by step troubleshooting.

Now come on guys, lets get recommending.

Haha, you actually did what I thought and what Jim didn't :p

<tries to understand above sentence> <gives up hope>

My proposal for the FTP (assumed it's going to happen at all):

- For members of let's say 100+ posts and/or who have been approved using a system like the current FS&W telephone approval.

- Heard someone saying this on the chat; is it possible to have the FTP show up as an partition in your explorer?

- Host for the FTP users; something like http://username.overclock3d.net. And then hope no one registers with the name 'forum' :p

Don't have to do the new themes for me, I love the current one tbh. A good watercooling installation video instruction and video reviews would be ace though.

yeah i said the thing about the explorer, if you right click in my computer then you can add a network location, so instead of using a ftp thing to upload you can just go into my computer :)

Would we make the FTP web accessable (so you could upload images and then be able to link to them using http://....)?

My only issue with FTP is that its insanely insecure. Not only for people hacking into it (as passwords are sent in plain text) but more that anyone could un/knowingly upload a virus to the server.

Hmm the security is a problem... Is it possible to perform a scan on incoming files? We could also use SFTP to reduce the risk of unauthorised access.

Yeah the server will be running AV so quite a lot of stuff will get picked up, but there is always the chance that something may not. Also if we're making stuff web accessable then there is the pottential that they could upload malicious scripts to delete stuff from the server.

We could always have a flash based upload server? So it'll be much better than the current one but will prevent certain malicious file types from being uploaded.

Hm hmm, difficult. A flash app sounds like a plan but that would mean everyone has to use that single app, right? The great advantage of (s)ftp is the fact everyone can use the program they like.

Two ideas:

- Is it possible to limit the extensions of files like in the post attachments? When using ftp ofc ;)

- Could it be an idea to use the old server for the ftp so any damage to files would not be done to the site itself? Would be a problem with costs to keep her running I guess.

Just throwing out my ideas :)

I have my own server with enough space and bandwith, so I'm not interested in an FTP server. Although I agree FTP cannot be used for a public application, so a flash uploader would be cool, maybe even a Adobe Air application.

However, some video articles would be nice to have on the site, maybe not even reviews - a news round up or guides as suggested above. New themes are kind of point less to be honest, I would still use this one. It is easy to read, and not that in your face.

That is all for now, will see what else I come up with.

ftp = vary bad idear

video review = good idea but consider the bandwidth ?

Video how to's -

How to apply tim's

Had to fit a HFC !!!

Adding a graphics card

Upgrading memory

(normal stuff that noobs can use to understand the basics) making OC3D more user friendly.

Maybe a few Real gamer game reviews

Water cooling reviews.

Fan controller reviews

List can go on.

Newbie's guide to watercooling. I've had quite a lot of trouble exactly understanding how everything works in the real world. Finding guides on the principle is easy, finding guides on what components is ... well, not too hard. But a guide from A to Z including pics and explanations about for example fittings (first time I heard of G1/4": "wth?") is quite hard to find.

Or at least I never found it, but could be me lacking google skills too :p

a comprehensive watercooling guide is really hard to make... there is so many different beliefs, and most people capable of writing it try and stay away from telling people exactly what to do.

It's not on what parts exactly to use, but general placement of parts (explanation of ID/OD, G threads, replacing a gpu block) would be nice.

Telling what parts to buy is more for best buy guides and 'spec me some wc' threads.
