Replace a PII 960T with a FX-4300 ?

There is pretty much minimal difference between those two CPUs clock for clock, to be honest... If your PII clocks well (~4.0Ghz ish), it's not really an upgrade...

I'd suggest a minimum of the FX6300, if you're on a budget or if you can stretch to one of the 8 cores... also you haven't mentioned if you're overclocking or not, but the AMD chips aren't very good if you don't OC, just food for thought ;)

Get a 6300 if you're on a budget. They're very decent. If you can stretch to it though I'd say the best would be an 8320.

If i remember corrctly doesn't the 960T unlock to a 6 core phenom?

If your motherboard allows unlocking cpu cores i'd give that a go.

Guys... the question is
remain to 960T or go to 4300?

Watsyerproblem, my 960T is not unlockable.

4300. Its a little bit faster clock for clock and should overclock a lot higher so youll be faster at the end of the day. I agree that a 6300 would be a better choice but if it has to be a 4300, I think it would be worth it over a 960T.

As for unlocking, it should be unless your motherboard doesnt support core unlocking. It might not even be an option listed in the BIOS as core unlocking. For older chipsets, it was Advanced Clock Calibration (ACC) that you had to set to AUTO in order to get the other cores to unlock. If you could unlock your 960T, that would be a better option. A Phenom 6 core with a solid overlcock is still a very capable processor and can hang with anything FX except a highly overclocked 8300.

I dont overclock. I dont want many volts, I m cool and silent.
I can sell 960T and give +40€ to get 4300 instead, if worths.
Here says that 960T is better in multi-threaded performance.

Not all cpu s are unlockable. My mobo(GA 970A UD3) supports that, and I have already checked it.

If you absolutely HAVE to upgrade with this budget then at least get the FX4350, but to be honest going from a quad to another quad with a lower IPC but higher clock rate is kinda pointless... It might net you a 10/15% increase but that's really not worth the money. I would suggest holding onto the PII until you have enough for a 6300 or a 8320, cause at least in my eyes the FX4300 is really not a viable upgrade over the old PIIs

I have to agree with iBeInspire if you absolutely must go for FX the 4350 would be my bottom line choice. The 4100, 4150, 4300 are just mistakes which are best forgotten.

If youre not going to overclock or consider anything other than a 4300 then stick with your 960T. A stock 4300 wont be much of an upgrade.

I dont "have", I 'll do it only if worths.
4350 is 4,3GHz and 125W. I dont need that. Cpu must be 95W. I m green and psu is just 430W.
960T can easily get 4GHz with o/c, if I ever need them.

Got it :)

if you clock the fx 4300 and your phenom both at the same clocks (e.g 3.8ghz) the phenom will be quite a bit faster. idk whats happen to AMD theese days

Right but with a couple extra MHz, the FX would be faster and a 4300 should easily overclock to 4.5 GHz where a 960T will only go to 4.0 and most likely 3.9 so that extra 500 MHz is what makes the 4300 a little faster but if the OP isnt going to overclock then that benefit aint there so you stick with the 960T cause itll be faster clock for clock.
