Record shattering OC

IBM have successfully overclocked a CPU to a truely unbelievable 500 GHz (yes that is two zero's after the 5). This was done by taking the chip to just 4.5°c above absolute zero. To show they were not just taking advantage of their ability to create these temperatures, they took the chip to 350 GHz at room temperature.

Overclock the bugger some more and run some benchies, just to make sure they squeezed every last ounce out of it Impressive overclock regardless; I wonder if these are gonna be commonplace in their supercomputers.

Yep my thoughts exactly; obviously nothing conventional. Hence my previous statement about it being an impressive overclock. It's more than likely some infinitisemal nanometre size, non-silicon hybrid wafer, and exceptionally expensive to manufacture CPU.

probably but even if i guess ibm has gathered valuable data on this.

achieving high frequencies is very hard as cables and all that starts to act like capacitors.

i think the achievement is more about getting it to 500 without it blowing the building up, never mind stability............besides i dont think super PI can measure in nanoseconds lol. i might try hunt down the details later, im intrigued as to what the v core was and what memory they used

Its a chip not a cPU,

most likely its a set of 4 transistors. Ghz is just the speed that it switches at. So they beat the old record by 40% or so.
