Hi all

getting a new rig put together

components so far:

Code:
Intel Core i7-4770K
Gigabyte G1.Sniper Z87 Intel Z87 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard
Corsair Hydro H100i High Performance Liquid CPU Cooler
Samsung 120GB SSD 840 EVO SATA 6Gb/s
2TB HDD
TeamGroup Vulcan GOLD 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-19200C11 2400MHz Dual Channel Kit (TLYD38G2400HC11CDC01)
SuperFlower Golden Green HX 650W "80 Plus Gold" Power Supply

I will use onboard GPU for now and then get a 270x soon (as not a mega gamer)

id like to get a case that will accommodate all the parts and give me decent room in the roof for the H100i so in the future i can use push-pull and be fairly quiet and have full dust filters

watched loads of TTL videos (awesome btw!) and still cant make my mind up

originally my budget was £100 but i cant see any cases that will do what i want

so i look at the 750D but its just too big and no space in my room for it, then i look at the 650D and crazily its the same price as the 750D!

650D worries me as its an old case now, is it worth spending £140 on an old case?

Arc Midi R2 is another one, will this 100% fit the H100i in the roof?

Bitfenix Ronin ive read is good but cant fnd stock anywhere

I know about the world famous H100 compatibility thread over on OC forum

are there any others i should be looking at?

(p.s im coming from an old Q6600 build in a Antec P180 case)

thanks in advance!

thanks Feronix

do you know if the included fans are quiet? or would it be wise to go for some AF140 quiet editions?

also would you set up the fans like this?

front: intake
rear: exhaust
H100i: push or pull exhaust

Fractal make some epic cases and I'd definitely recommend this one for your set-up.

I've used two Fractal Cases in the past, and while not inaudible, the fans were surprisingly quiet. You could always use them to start off with and get different ones later if you're not happy with them, fans are easily replaced.

What I'd do is mount the H100i in the roof in a pull configuration (fans above the rad) and have it exhausting air out of the case. This way your rad is easier to clean and it makes no difference temp-wise.

I'd then mount the other 3 fans as intakes (2x 140mm in the front and 1x in the rear). Make sure to get a dust filter for the rear fan when you do this. You can buy magnetic ones for £3+ these days.

Having more intakes than exhaust creates a positive air pressure and thus helps keeping the dust out of the case. If you have more exhaust than intakes, dust gets pulled into your case through unfiltered ventilation and/or cracks.

Not to mention there's fan control on the more popular Fractal Cases, if they're too loud at 12v, run them at either 7v or 5v.

My Define R4 with the fans at either 7v or 5v is extremely quiet. My Cooler Master 590 is annoying loud in comparison.

Shouldn't have a problem choosing a case really, I have a bitfenix prodigy with an h100i in the roof.
Go for one that you like the look of, after all it is the main thing you are going to be seeing.

Thanks guys.

Think the r2 midi is the one to get. Great price too

Would if liked the 650d but bit pricey at the moment.

Now to find someone who has stock of the midi r2!

Scan has a Pre-order option and the product page says "Item due today". Surely should be okay? 75 quid incl VAT :)

http://www.scan.co.uk/products/frac...formance-case-with-side-window-usb-30-w-o-psu

ive been checking their site all weekend, status has been the same lol

ive emailed them before so waiting for a reply.

ive been glued to this http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/part/fractal-design-case-fdcaarcr2blw and none of the big boys have it

guess il have to wait a bit longer, would like to order from scan as they have the H100i in stock and at a good price

sorry just seen your edit, yep got that exact same filter in my basket waiting :)

got me some SP120 quiet editions too to go on the H100i, will see how it goes from there.

is there anything else i need?

thanks :)

Did find it on Amazon in stock, but I don't know how reliable the sellers are.

i have microdirect and Aria local to me, will have to pay a little over the odds for the case though, not by much though (£83.99 at microdirect)

thanks for your help Feronix

Oh man I honestly think OC3D gives fractal its UK market. No bad thing as they are excellent cases!

Oh yeah, you might want to get a 24 pin power extender cable. Some psus have cables that are just not long enough to reach the motherboard power if you route the cables behind the back of the motherboard (i.e. cable management). Its happened everytime I've done a build with a Define R4.

thanks, something like this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Akasa-AK-CB...3&sr=8-2&keywords=24+pin+power+extender+cable ?

Corsair 540 is the shizznitt, Get it and you won't be disappointed !

i like this case but the lack of dust filters and big footprint had me looking at a normal mid tower case

Yeah :D. If you have more money I'd get this: NZXT starter premiuim cable pack
It helps make cable mangement even better as you can tuck the cables in more. It also looks quite nice IMO. If you'd rather not I'd double check with others if thats the cable that can be a bit too short. For the record all the build I have done with this issue were seasonic bronze modular 750w psus so it might just be those psus that have that problem.
