had a little set back
been using coolermaster pro2 1000w and got the expensive smoke and pop gone
I'm running 2500k@4.6
2x 7970@1200/1800
2x ssd raid 0
hdd+ssd cache
water cooled with D5 + 15x120mm bitfenix spectre pros + fan controller
help me out how big have I got to go and what :(

I would recommend taking a look at the Corsair RM series, especially where they run passively under low load it will keep things nice and quiet. And even with the fan running it's still crazily quiet.

EDIT: As James stated, you can get away with a smaller wattage unit.

You'd get by easily on an AX760.

If you want more headroom AX860, but it's really just unnecessarily spending money going for that much.

thanks for quick answers
going down to 850/860w having smoked a 1000w seems a little odd somehow?

ANY of the Corsair power supplies mentioned will be good enough I use an AX850 and it's more than enough with my 2x 7970's

thanks guys think I going with the RM1000 and the fact its the same length as the one I'm using means I've not got to change the psu cover I made
just got to talk nice to the wife to spent more on this playtime :)

I would go for at least a good 1000w PSU, yes I know you won't use it all but it won't get close to max either meaning it will run quieter and more efficiently.

The above will also leave you some options for future system upgrading.

When I measured my two HD7970s and 3970X all overclocked they were pulling up to 911 watts at the wall on a Corsair AX1200i, I know you won't be using a hexcore so you usage even overclocked will be lower.

It probs wont run more efficiently, look at the power curves , when im idling i get around 80% when gaming over 92% as i have aimed the tip of the curve around my gaming wattage, so it depends on what its going to be used most at,

I haven't looked at the power curves, I was more worried about it being man enough for the job and lasting long enough than losing a percentage of the efficiency, if it draws more from the wall but keeps going I'll be a happy chappy:)

i was just replying to someone saying going for the larger power units, if a 760 is enough to run your system then id go for an 860.

But thats just me and i plan on running two 780's from my 860 but thats just me.
