Realtek soundcards

Hello guys. Ive had a few issues with BF3 lately. It seems like it is an issue with the realtek sound driver that makes the picture freeze and the sound stuttering. i think ive heard some about this earlyer but just want to check with you guys. Any recomended solutions on this? maybe a driver fix or i might get a soundcard with different brand?

Is this happening on the Gene-Z? I thought it has the X-Fi drivers from Creative? Seems like Asus haven't updated any drivers for the onboard Realtek sound. Maybe you can try reinstalling the Realtek driver and test if that works. If not, you could also try the Creative X-Fi utilities package. You'll find it in the utilities section near the bottom.

Assuming that you'll be trying dual video cards later on, I would probably suggest getting an external sound card. I've found the Creative X-Fi Surround 5.1 Pro external USB sound card to be a pleasant experience for me. You may want to check it out.

I think i have both software installed, lol. The Realtek driver and the x-fi software. Reason is, i thought the x-fi software was just an utility and not a driver. Should i remove the Realtek driver and just use the x-fi software? Confusing.....

I havent checked in bios if the sound is set to HD and not AC97. Il check that when i get home from work.

If you go into Device Manager and under the Sound, video and game controllers do you see the Creative driver installed as well as the Realtek? If both are active, then try uninstalling the Realtek and leaving the Creative enabled. See if that helps?

aye thanks. Il check that out when i get home. Also going to check in bios what settings are set as default.

Before you do any uninstalling, if you go skim through the motherboard manual. I think the Realtek chip and X-Fi software are linked. Maybe it's the X-Fi program that needs some fine tuning. I think I confused myself as well...haha.

i have the rampage II extreme and used the soundcard that came with that, only way i was able to fix the problem was to disable the card so in the end i found a spare soundcard and swapped them.

Apparently it is punkbuster and the realtek drivers conflicting and this has been going on since bf: bad company 2 as my pc used to crash with that too

Oh really. Thanks for the info m8.

I didnt have xf-i utillity installed, but i did install it on the other build i made. HD was enabled in bios also. Im hoping this sorts out the stuttering or i will get a external/internal soundcard.

Any recomendations for a cheap and good soundcard?

If you don't use the front panel audio, you can try turning to off or unplugging the HD/AC97. Could be the driver/program that is acting funny?

Yeah ive looked into those. I might buy the Asus Xonar Essence STX. Alitle expensive but great feedback on that card.

Il check if the X-fi utility make any differnce in BF3 tonight. Got a few hours b4 another nightshift starts.

Maybe you can turn some of the X-Fi settings in its program off and see whether or not there's any improvements?

I did run BF3 tonight with no stuttering, but i might have to test it for several hours to see if the utility helps any. I believe these two softwares are ment to run togetter, but i might ask Asus suport if i am right.

If the freeze/stuttering goes away i might not need an extra soundcard.

Usually I just turn off all the fancy Creative settings. It helped in the past, but kind of unsure of whether or not it'll be effective with the onboard audio.

If it keeps persisting, then I'd probably just get an inexpensive sound card to replace the onboard sound for now.
