Really wierd thing with my sis @ the mo.

Jeeeeez, guys.

This is going from bad to worse for the poor girl:(

They're transfering her to Papworth Hospital today (a 100 mile trip from where we are) to consider open heart surgery to replace an infected valve.

I'm thinking that was that shadow they were chasing round on the scans. Prolly going round in the bloodstream 'til it latched onto something. Couldn't have picked a worse place.

That really sounds like she`s had an internal infection.

Sort of infection that grows like a virus and moves around the system infecting anything it contacts, or tries to if the system`s imune police can`t fight it off.

I find it bizzare that they would find shadows, zap the suckers and pat her on the back `n send her home. That`d be likely to leave her feeling semi better for a short while until the infection makes another hook somewhere else.

I`d`ve thought zap the things, some sort of course of peneciline-anti-bacterial stuff, observation, strict diet, and so on.

Bah, I don`t want to offend any1 that maybe part of the service, but tbh I have absolutely no faith in doctors/nurses here. Partially down to the system, but equally the staff.

.. and to be fair as well, health people are going to have to start taking more serious studies on illnesses, including being able to detect the likes of illnesses that haven`t been popular for 20 years or so. Especially with the world getting smaller and smaller travel wize. I particularly refer to things like TB, which can look like the flu.

Yeah, can't remember what they called it. But it's associated with the teeth, tonsils and throat, when they go untreated.

Went to see her at Papworth Hospital yesterday. What a transformation!

The consultant said that when she arrived on Saturday morning after the 100mile trip she was in such a state that she should have been a CHF case (Congestive Heart Failure). They worked round the clock to blitz the throat/chest infection throughout the weekend and she was well enough to take a small blood transfusion yesterday to build up her immune system (which was in a state after being on anti-biotics for a prolonged period.)

Come Tuesday they'll make the decision whether or not she needs the surgery. My bro-in-law had a quad by-pass a few years ago at the same hospital, so I think they know what they're doing.

wow i've just been catching up on all that has been happening and omg I feel so sorry for you, I hope they can find it and fix it for your sister. How are the kids going while all this is happening?

I hope all is well man, my brother was in the hospital a few years ago during the entire school year. Wasn't pleasant at all. Good luck man, may god be on your side.

They still haven't decided what course of action to take as yet. They're still keeping her stable with anti-biotics and keeping a close watch on the heart condition. I believe they were doing some exploratory stuff yesterday, just waiting to hear how that went.

I think they're aiming to blitz this chest/throat infection before they have to undertake any surgery, to make sure she can take the anesthetic.

I'm going over to see her on Friday, all being well. It's a long old journey (180-200mile round trip).

@ AussieMum

The boys are fine at the mo. They're handling it really well. They're aware they may be without their mum for at least 2 months. The eldest one (15) is going through his exams at school, and he's not sure if he's doing good enough. I just told him to do what he can and as long as he trys, the world loves a tryer. As for the youngster (12), he's just plodding along doin his own thing. They've kept me laughing through it. Their father hasn't shown any interest in their well being since they were divorced, he just constantly beats them down and gives them negative feedback about their school reports. He's just interested in Work makes money - makes beer - makes me forget.

He's a warehouse manager for the local brewery - nuff said.
