Razer Blackwidow LED mod

Hey everyone.

I am looking at upgrading my keyboard from the 'Microsoft Sidewinder x6' to something mechanical.

I have a 'Razer Naga Molten' mouse already because I want to stick with a 'red' theme that I have going on with my build.

I have OCD quite intensely and I simply must have red throughout everything. The thought of clashing colours drives me mental. Similarly, peripheral producers have to be the same. eg. I had to get the Sidewinder mouse as well as the Sidewinder keyboard. Even typing on a Microsoft keyboard whilst using a Razer mouse is stressing me out. The joys... :(

Now that you are aware of my irrational problem, here is my issue...

I have been researching the 'Razer Blackwidow', but the LEDs are green. Does anybody know how easy it would be to mod the Backwidow with red LEDs so that I can have matching keyboards and mice and a matching colour scheme?

Sorry to be a pest with my issues.

nobody has to apologize for asking questions.
I feel you with the "everything must match" problem. i currently have two different screens and it is annoying me. not as bad as your problem, but i think everyone on this forum has a highly developed sense of order when it comes to our PCs. as for your modding problem, i think it should be possible, but i don't know the structure of the black widow, so no idea how hard it will be. it would however invalidate your warranty rights, you better think about that twice.

It appears they are using common LEDs. I have no idea what the voltage is or the size. If you are good at soldering it is probably doable, but a lot of soldering. If the brightness is controllable you should crank the brightness up to full and then measure the voltage across the two pins of an LED to get an idea of what voltage LEDs to use. If new at soldering or not experienced at this type of stuff I'd recommend not doing it.

Hey guys thanks so much for the comments so far! I am quite good at soldering and I have some friends who are also much better, so the soldering won't be a problem, I don't think :)

Cool, good luck. :)

OH YEAH, just try one and see how it works, if it works well GO FOR IT!

That is something I personally wouldn't want to do.

Like said before it will void your warranty, and knowing Razer something will probably break... :L

maybe sell the mouse and get something else? also seems like thermaltake might be right for you. their colour scheme is black and red. no idea if their stuff is good enough for you though.

Soldering all LED's of a Keyboard, would be a Pain in the *** and takes a huge amount of Time, with no guarantee.

Just take the Qpad with MX-Blue, it works fine.
