I am planning future system on Rampage VI Extreme with Core i9-7900X (44 PCI-E lanes) CPU and have some confusion about PCIe lanes and slots distribution, please help and explain the following possibility.
Planned hardware: 2x1080Ti's in SLI; Intel Optane 905p PCIe x4 SSD for the system; ASUS Hyper M.2 X16 Card with 4x Samsung 960 Pro's 2TB for the storage.
From the Rampage VI Extreme specifications and manual I have learned about available PCIe mode x16/x8/x8/x8, though manual states that in case of dual VGA PCIe cards slots PCIex16/x8_1 and PCIex16/x8_3 operate in x16 mode while PCIex8_2 is not usable and PCIex8_4 operates in x4 mode, which make my planned confiuration pretty much unusable. Moreover, the manual says that Intel Optane technology is only supported by M.2_1 when sourced from the PCH.
Please, help with the explanation whether I can use the following configuration and which slots should be used for that and what respactive settings in the BIOS should be applied, if any: 2 VGA cards operating in PCIe x8 mode; Intel Optane 905p PCIe x4 SSD; Hyper M.2 X16 Card in PICe x16 mode.
