Raid0 vs non Raid0

Well basically

Im on raid0 with two raptors atm

Its fast, I like it

But

How much faster is it compared to non Raid0

I say this as I am having to give up Ubuntu as I cant get it to work with Raid :(

Well im using an onboard one

And ubuntu doesnt detect ANY partitions

and the guys on the forums said i have to use a complex program called fakeraid to partition...not worth it

but then again, is raid0 ?

I'd say that because you've got raptors, you're system will still feel nippy (due to the reduced latency vs regular drives), which you can argue is the main thing to have.

Boot time should be about the same due to being able to not have to initalise the array on startup.

Disk to disk transffers are going to slow down, installing programs and load times will also slow down, but I think with program loads, it'll not be a huge amount of difference either way.

The only time you might notice it is if you're doing a disk intensive operation that is doing lots of reading/writing (editing high res video comes to mind).

All i do tbh

is

Game

internet/email

music

films

download

and repeat xD

would it be a noticeable drop in performance? im on 128k sectors

Out of those the only disk intensive thing is gaming, and even then only thing you (might) notice is games will take a few seconds longer to load, but it will literally only be a couple of seconds.

grr so annoying having to choose between fast game loads or ubuntu!

love them both :( <3

i shall try without raid next setup
