Anyone know anything about road racing bicycles, i'm new to it but i really want to get into more and i am looking for my first road bike. Budget is around £400 as i want something that will last me a while.

Any help would be much appreciated, thanks

Don't forget Le Tour starts today. Live coverage from 12.00 on ITV4.

What sort of riding do you want to do? Is it purely road? What's the max distance you have ridden so far? What are you riding at the moment?

I've been riding a road bike for a fair few years, nothing competitive, just get some miles in at the weekend with some mates.

Have a look at the Wiggle site to get an idea of what is available, must admit haven't looked at buyin' a bike in ages...

Specialized are a good make but from looking on evanscycles website cheapest they do is 500 or the next one up for 520 but they do have money off, there are plenty of other makes that will do just as good, just got to think what parts you want

Yeh i want a purely road bike, i've been riding my mountain bike for a couple of years now and it's useless on the road. The max distance i've done is 30 miles but that was on my mountain bike, average distance with friends is around 15-20 miles. But i'd like to get a few more in there.

Yeh i've had a look on the evanscycles site and there are a fair few nice bikes on there! I think i'm going to try and find similar models in shops near me to try out first.

I'm not really sure which parts are best though, for a beginner. Like i said i've been mountain biking for a couple of years but nothing major, i just bought a bike i liked from a local dealer.

Again any help would be much appreciated.

Wiggle is a site I use to get most of my cycling stuff. Also look out in Aldi for your clothing, they have some real bargains there every now and then.

When I put my road bike together a few years ago, I had an old Reynolds 653 racing frame (steel), all the modern stuff is alumimium or carbon now. I then got a Campagnolo groupset (hubs, brakes, chainset etc) and got a guy in the local bike shop to put it all together for me.

It's just like putting a pc together, the frame is the most important thing to get right. All the other parts can be upgraded as and when.

I have recently put skinny slicks on my mountain bike, it makes a huge difference...
