If the 290x is faster than a titan then a 780ti is slower.

I think the R9 290X will only be faster than a Titan in the same way as a non ref GTX 780 is faster than a Titan out of the box. Once you start overclocking, the Titan comes out on top.

The new 780ti I think will be something along the lines of a factory overclocked GTX 780 with more vram to compete with the R9 290X at 4K. The other thing NVidia may do is enable another SMX module so it has 13 compared to the 12 on the GTX 780.

I posted the specs below on another forum as a joke but I don't think they will be too far away from what the 780ti comes with.

GTX 780 Ti
Stream Processors = 2496
Texture Units = 208
ROPs = 48
Core Clock = 928MHz
Boost Clock = 980MHz
Memory Clock = 6GHz GDDR5
Memory Bus Width = 384-bit
VRAM = 4.5gb
FP64 = 1/24 FP32
TDP = 250W
Transistor Count = 7.1B
Manufacturing Process = TSMC 28nm
Launch Price = $649

Any wild gues about the 290x price?

r9 290x is faster out of the box. Gonna need an overclocked titan. Then add in the 290x overclocked and it will most likely still be faster(assuming 290x oc's like the 7000 series).

I don't get it sometimes when peeps compare a lower tier card to the next tier card and saying just overclock the lower tier and it will perform the same as the higher one. It's not like the higher tier card can't be overclocked :)

I read somewhere (can't remember where), that AMD is waiting for the version of Battlefield 4 with Mantle support to conincide with the release of the R9 290X, just to have more or less total dominance with benchmarks in that one game alone. Take it with a grain of salt of course.

Also I think AMD is lifting the NDA on the 24th.

I am so tired of that waiting that if it wasnt sunday i would go to the stores and grab a 780!!!!!!its the firts time that i am thinking to go to amd but the "signs"keeps telling me its a mistake :-P

That's the problem the 7000 series don't overclock as well as the GK110 chips, check out some of the clockspeeds that the GTX 780 classifieds and lightnings are hitting. I would be surprised if the R9 290X can get much over 1125mhz on the core.

I agree. All the secrecy they keep makes them look like they have something to hide. And Nvidia looks like it has a nice day with AMD again, shooting fish in a barrel...

I was comparing the OC ability vs the 600 series or 700 series(excluding 780). SO in that case it would be better.

I think that the oc ability of a card is based on the quality of the core itself and not on the brand.u might have a 7970 that oclocks way better than a 770 or a 780.am i wrong?

Just hold on a little longer. It is due now because many of the guys hear have said it should release around the time of BF4, BF4 is due out a week today. Plus they are doing a bundle with the 290x and BF4 packaged with it.

Tom is probably benching one as we speak!

Generally speaking the 7xxx series OC more than 6xx/7xx cards. But yes comparing core to core you are right.

Also assuming it can be overclocked without watercooling. Looking at some leaks it might be challenging. :rolleyes:
