R9 290 bsod

Hi all. Having problems with my R9 290 Tri-X. I bought this card not too long ago, and I have come across a problem after installing it. The problem is that I get completely random BSODs every once in a while. I never had this problem with my old card, and they don't seem to have any pattern. I get them about 2 - 3 times a week. When I play games, there is no performance loss, no graphical glitches, nothing is wrong other than these random BSODs. The BSOD error code is 0xa0000001. I did a WhoCrashed on it and it said that it was cause by atikmdag.sys. I have also tried re-installing the drivers and it still happens. Also it never seems to happen in games like Planetside 2 or Battlefield 4, only on the desktop or on a web browser. RMAing isn't an option so any advice?

Try removing your GPU drivers and CCC and starting again with a fresh driver install. Also check that GPU Overdrive is disabled in CCC I had the same Bsods with F@H it was Overdrive causing it for me.

Overdrive isn't enabled on CCC. I also have already reinstalled the drivers and Catalyst and it still happens. I thought it might be something to do with overclocking tools so I got rid of TriXX but that didn't make a difference either.

Just a thought but i had exactly the same problem but with a different card.I'd got the BSOD daily.It never happened while gaming,only when on the web or none graphic intense stuff and my computer would lock out watching youtube videos.I uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers loads of times but it didnt cure it.I got a new PSU and since installing it i've never had the BSOD since.As i said just an avenue you could try

That might be my best option. I've tried pretty much everything and I cant fix it. I wanted to get a new PSU at some point for Crossfire anyways. Cheers.

what PSU do you have currently? might be worth trying to find a friend that you can borrow one from first to see.

That would be a good plan to borrow one just in case your problem is different to mine.I had a Generic 750w but since i changed it for a OCZ 550w ZS the problem has gone.Im running it with a BFG GTX 260 Maxcore 55

I found the solution to your problem. Hope this works. If you still have problems then you probably need a better PSU.

Step 1: Download and install the latest ati graphic driver.AND DONT TURN OFF OR RESTART YOUR COMPUTER AFTER INSTALLATION

Step 2: Then go to C:\Windows\System32\Drivers and rename atikmdag.sys to atikmdag.sys.old.

Step 3: Go to ati directory (usually in C:\ATI) and find the file atikmdag.sy_.

Step 4: Copy the file to your Desktop directory.

Step 5: Open cmd.exe by going to Start -> type cmd in the search box and hit enter.

Step 6: Change the directory to Desktop by typing chdir Desktop.

Step 7: Then, type EXPAND.EXE atikmdag.sy_ atikmdag.sys. Or,

expand -r atikmdag.sy_ atikmdag.sys

Step 8: When the expansion is complete, copy the new atikmdag.sys from your Desktop to

C:\Windows\System32\Drivers

Step 9: Restart your computer and the problem should be resolved.

My PSU is a Corsair CX750M. I'll ask around and see if I can borrow a mates.

I found the solution to your problem. Hope this works. If you still have problems then you probably need a better PSU.
