R5E Restart Post Issue

Hi guys,

I am having an issue with my x99 rampage V extreme where it freezes when posting after a restart, cold start works fine it only happens when I either use the restart button on the case or the restart within windows it also hangs whenever anything is changed in the bios it can be anything that causes like changing voltage or even changing the storage configuration from ACIH to Raid etc. I have tried updating bios to various different versions, reseating everything running mem test and have inspected the socket which appeared to be fine so now I am lost as to what to do I have got an open return with Amazon UK but I am just asking here first as I would like to avoid having to drain my loop again if I can. Also my raid keeps unmounting 1 or 2 drives out of the 4 corrupting my games I have stored on them luckily only GTA V and Rise of the Tomb Raider.

Thanks

The first question that comes up in my head is what OS are you running?.

Windows 10 Pro

The Rest of the Specs are:

Intel 5960X
Titan X Two Way SLI
64gb 2400mhz Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4
Samsung sm951 M.2 SSD
4 x samsung 840 Evo 250gb raid 0
EVGA 1300watt G2 PSU
Hope this information is more helpful

Hi there,

For future reference if you post ASUS problems in the ASUS UK customer care sub-forum on OC3D, your enquiry will get seen by ASUS staff directly (even if you are not UK based) and allow us to answer faster. I've only seen this as someone brought it to my attention.

I've heard of similar cold boot problems before from people and it always seemed to be something unrelated to the board. Windows 10's fast startup option can often cause cold boot problems (try disabling that in power options) as it sets the system memory in a certain state and because it doesn't power down after reboot the board sees that state and throws a wobbly.

If it's not that then it could be other things like something on the back of the motherboard interfering with tracers (this causes more problems than people realise), if you've tried multiple BIOSes I doubt it's an issue with a poor/bad BIOS flash/version but you could try reflashing the same version to be sure. Sometimes dodgy peripheral devices (USB mainly) cause problems with BIOS/POST initialisation.

Given the number of points of failure on a motherboard, though, it is possible the board is faulty so definitely speak with your retailer about an RMA if you have no luck pursuing other avenues.

Thanks for the Reply I did disable something within Windows that someone said it fixes Q-code 40 when the PC is woken from sleep because it apparently causes the motherboard to think it's being woken from sleep mode constantly and after disabling that it did fix it for several boots and it booted fine but then it started coming up with code bd and and freezing on 95 and also sometimes 70. I was lucky to have a second PC running a dual channel kit of DDR4 memory so I tested that and it still didn't seem to fix the issue so I have spoke to the Retailer now and they have agreed to RMA the board. But since sending it back for RMA and now you have mentioned it as well I wonder if my Keyboard may have been the issue it is a Corsair K95 RGB keyboard and whenever I booted the PC the keyboard was unresponsive unless I unplugged it and plugged it back in during the post process and that happened both on USB 2.0 and 3.0

I will post in the Asus Customer Care Sub forum next time I didn't realise that was there thanks for letting me know.
