R290 Help

I recently got an R290 and I'm having a problem. At seemingly random points the computer just instantly shuts down. it doesnt matter what i'm doing it just shuts down after anywhere from 5 minutes to 10 hours. If i put my old graphics card in i have no problems so i presumed it was a faulty card but when i had my friend test it he had no problems what so ever. Any idea what the problem could be? I'd really appreciate the help because I've tried everything i could think off.

Sounds like a power problem, what PSU do you have?

Power supply. Tried that?

I had a bad non brand 850w powersupply which i replaced with a corsair 650w. the card doesnt work with either power supply

Rest of your specs? The non brand might have damaged the motherboard.

I have AMD FX-8150 CPU and a Asus M5A-78L-M motherboard. I did suspect it to be a motherboard problem but i dont want to spend the money if only to find it was some other issue

Yeah that motherboard isn't really designed for the 8core AMD cpus :S.
