Quick Update on the new processors?

Also, I've been back on the times recently with computers.

are i7's the best processor out right about now? Has AMD made any sort of comeback since the C2D architecture? Do GHZ still compare between AMD and Intel like they used to? (As in, does a lower clock on AMD still equal a higher clock on an intel?)

Honestly, a quick update on the newest processors is what I really need I just have been out of the game for a bit. Also, if anyone could add a little about ATI vs. Nvidia right now that'd be cool. (I've been really out of touch)

A lower clock on an intel is the same as a slightly higher clocked amd now, has been for a little while now tbh.

Its around a 2.8 core 2 quad to the 3.4 phenom II x4's in benchmark situations iirc, the difference gets larger when you take out the core 2 quad and put in an i5's and i7's.

So a 1.6GHz i7 could be equal to a 2.4GHz Phenom? Well that's backwards from what I've always known lol

ATM Intel do have it tied down tbh, from budget to extreme the comparable AMD cant really touch it, for me a massive decider is the Intel based chipsets coupled with an Intel CPU clock like no ones business atm. IMHO you have a much greater choice of motherboards aswell, mobo support and looks has been a problem for amd for ages.

Ill sit up and take notice when Asus make a Rampage Extreme for an AMD socket for example, without the big manufacturers showing some real support it wont change. Intel is still the popular kid in the playground with AMD being a member of the maths club.

AMD are better value for money, regards the total system , as the motherboards are cheaper and ou can get dual or tri core cpus unlocked to quad cores. Have a look at the benchmarks, the real world difference will be hard to notice unless doing very cpu intensive tasks. For gaming both will do, even c2d @ 3,5ghz is sufficient atm.

nvidia still kicks ATI's ass

Both teams have there periods of being better than the other. So you have to decide which card is best for the games you play yourself!

but overall majority of games play better on nvidia cards.

Thats kinda correct, but if I had 300 notes to spend I know that I would go straight for the HD5870, GTX285 doesn't have a chance...

Yeah it all depends on the games you want to play more than anything if you want all out best bang for buck, but tbh there is usualy only a few % difference at most between equivilent ati and nvidia, once you bring crossfire and sli into it that few % changes to 25%+ difference in some games.

what about when fermis are relesed?

they will prob be a good load more expensive, i think i heard that the 470 is gonna be priced along the lines of the 5870 and they will be even more thin on the ground than the ati's were when they got released so expect stupid prices for a while

and isnt the 480 gonna be about 5-10% better performance than the 5870?

Nobody knows yet (except nvidia employees ofcourse:p) Nvidia does claim it's the fastest GPU out there but we'll have to wait and see. There's loads of rumours floating around but I don't buy any of em :p

only thing u can count on is it being pretty damn rare and expensive cause of them more than likely not having that many of them to ship
