I'm not sure how fast of memory you want , but according to the Gigabyte website you can use up to DDR3-2800mhz on the UP7. I sounds like your friend is giving you a good deal on the board , I would just go for it.
2133mhz sounds about right. I have a feeling that I might just go with the up7. My "other" friend has an avexir 2666mhz 4x4 ram kit and wasn't running stable on his z77x UD4H. He down graded his speed to 2400mhz just to get it stable with all 4 dimms on board. Then after getting z87x D3H and an i5, he's now enjoying 2666mhz full bank. Since I'm only targeting 2133mhz of ram speed, I shouldn't be worried to much. Gigabyte z77x boards really have bad memory controllers (TTL up7 review).
Thanks man. And the purpose of my build is just to game and have a good time overclocking. Won't do any video rendering and photo editing. (I don't have a camera. sigh*)
The memory controller is on the CPU die. The only thing the mobo does is provide enough power. Which should be better on Haswell(cpu) and better in general with higher quality compenents (mobo) and therefore better overclock.

If it is primarily for gaming you won't really notice a difference between 1600 ram and 2133 so just buy your mates board get a cpu and you'll be good to go

Finally got the up7 board. Thanks for helping me decide. Its sexy as hell. Should have never doubted in the first place. But anyway Thanks again OC3D. Now I need an i5. Cheers
