Quick News

Not really dead, more like they're not going to keep working on it themselves and might move it to professional Applications instead (e.g. photoshop). Also they supposedly have put some work into OpenGL next.

For those interested in GLnext. Apparently its been officially name Vulcan

Both AMD and Nvidia are involved in the development of Vulkan and have pledged to implement the API on their respective graphics hardware, but the Khronos Group has yet to offer a firm timescale for a public release beyond promising a specification and reference implementation 'later this year.'

Double posting but keeping news separate

EA strikes again...

This time they have decided to close Maxis Emeryville, the group responsible for Simcity, The Sims and Spore.

Source

They claim this is due to poor success of the above titles, and the huge backlash from players in the likes of SimCity and Sims4 claiming content was gutted and pushed into DLC unlike previous titles. Not to mention the lies involved around the SimCity internet mandatory connection which was provden false by cracking teams.

I personally feel that Maxis has made the worst games for EA, so my jimmies are perfectly unrustled (:

At GDC AMD showed off an Oculus rift demo powered by an "upcoming flagship Radeon R9 video card." They declined any further details however.

More AMD news.

Kitguru/VRWORLD/WCCFTech reported that AMD elected not to release one or two new cards earlier this month due to some factors. Instead however they now are rumored to be preparing for a launch with a FULL LINEUP of GPUs. Whats more interesting is they are rumored to ALL be based off NEW architecture and no rebranding. This wasn't commented on by AMD but AMD have said all their new GPUs will support Freesync. Currently AMD’s Hawaii (290 series), Tonga (285) and Bonaire (260 series) GPUs support FreeSync. All others do not and in order to make them support it, it would require on die changes. AMD opted to just make a new architecture instead as they needed to redesign the dies anyway.

Rumored to be Unveiled/launched at Computex(June 1) with a full line up of GPUs.

Summarized as much as i could for a "quick news" post. Little more info in the articles though.
