Quick News

So all those who buy the new 970/980 will be okay then.

Call me a cynic, but that seems a little off

Is this a TWIMTBP title by any chance?

If the specs were leaked by another tech site I'd agree, but it's from the developers so no messing around and gospel. Although I'm pretty sure the minimum specs will be quite low, given that it's also being released on 360 & PS3.

A nice update from Bethesda regarding their upcoming title "The Evil Within" which is due for release October 14th, they have released the system requirements at last, and they're lets face it quite high!

Recommended PC System Specifications

64-bit Windows 7/Windows 8
i7 with four plus cores
4 GBs RAM
50 GB of hard drive space*
GeForce GTX 670 or equivalent with 4GBs of VRAM
High Speed Internet Connection
Steam account and activation

*It’s worth noting that the 50 GB of space required is for the PC install. When the installation is complete, the game will take up ~41 GB of HDD space.

Well that was weird, usually I hate horror games (mainly because I'm a big wimp when it comes to tension) but I'm intrigued by this one.

Step aside Evil Within with your measly 4GB of Vram needed, behold Shadow of Mordor with its 6GB of Vram needed for Ultra settings :p

Is the competition? Give me 10 mins and I'll write a game that requires 100GB VRAM

EDIT: Also just preordered that today from cdkeys after Polygon's review.

It seems like games are trying to compete with Vram lately, we have Watch Dogs that uses 3.5GB+, Titan Fall that uses around the same and Rise Son of Rome PC version coming soon also recommends 4GB IIRC.

Surely the High Vram usage is due to the new consoles sharing Vram/ram?
ehhhh, suddenly my 780Ti feels inadequate :(.

Looks like I'll be back playing games 600x800 soon

I just popped over onto MNPCtech, for a nose and came across a link to a very interesting looking AIO cooler. It is very much like the RAIJINTEK TRITON that is soon to be released, only this looks to have a bit more bling. It has 2 seperate chambers, for the pump, and cold plate, and even better it comes in a 360 version.

think they put to much red in to it imo

That looks much better than the Ranjintek Trition in my opinion, plus there is a 360 version.

Lol, you might just need to if VRAM usage keeps getting higher :p

I have a feeling that you will still be ok with 3-4GB and they are just over exaggerating the VRAM usage. 6GB sounds a bit unrealistic to be honest, either that or the game is badly optimized.

I agree SieB, I'm not a fan at all of black and red but there is something about it I just like. The only off putting thing is the corrugated tube, and their logo.

AMD just announced Dr Lisa Su as their new CEO and President. (May god bring many years of innovation to AMD under her reign. God save the Queen)

AMD also revealed the price drop on the R9 (280/285/290/290x) series cards is only a promotional period. Expect prices to return to previous levels at some point

Football Manager 2015 launches on 7th November 2014 for Windows PC, Mac and Linux. BETA version available to those who pre-order. The main selling point of FM15 is that the game has been designed to make managing a club more personal and customisable.

meanwhile in Lenovo HQ, Gimmicksville a hybrid laptop/tablet is fitted with a projector (no, i'm not joking) and the worlds most complicated laptop hinge is added to a laptop to reduce weight.
Lenovo have pulled a Rob Ford it seems and have gone onto the magical pipe of 'great ideas'. Full article here.

Intel Corp gave a current-quarter revenue forecast above expectations and said the supply chain was in good shape ahead of holiday season as demand for personal computers recovered.

A global slump in personal computer demand that began with Apple Inc's launch of the iPad four years ago has stabilized in recent months, in part due to companies replacing employees' older laptops.

Intel said in a statement overnight that demand for its chips was in good shape.

"The worldwide PC supply chain appears to be healthy, with inventory levels appropriate in anticipation of the fourth quarter retail cycles," Intel said.

The recovering PC industry has helped push Intel's shares 24 per cent higher in 2014, making it the top performer in the Dow Jones industrial average.

“The telling thing will be next year. Do we continue to get a healthier, more stable PC market?,” said Ascendiant Capital analyst Cody Acree. “I think the enterprise refresh largely plays out by the end of 2014 and then next year the PC industry returns to modest annual declines.”

The results overnight, the first from a major technology company this earnings season, came after Chandler, Arizona-based Microchip warned last Thursday of weak demand in China that would soon become visible across the chip industry, sparking a broad selloff in chip stocks.

Intel said its gross margins would likely slip to 64 per cent in the current quarter from 65 per cent in the third quarter.

Intel has made little progress expanding from the PC industry into chips for smartphones and has been spending heavily to catch up to Qualcomm.

For the third quarter, Intel said its mobile and communications group had an operating loss of $1.04 billion on revenue of $1 million, reflecting subsidies Intel has been paying to persuade tablet makers to use its chips.

Intel posted third-quarter net income of $3.32 billion, or 66 cents a share, compared with $2.95 billion, or 58 cents a share, in the year-ago quarter as demand for personal computers stabilised. Analysts on average expected EPS of 65 cents.

Third-quarter revenue was $14.6 billion, up 8 per cent from the year-ago quarter, Intel said in a statement. Intel said it expects fourth-quarter revenue of $14.7 billion, plus or minus $500 million.

Analysts on average expected third-quarter revenue of $14.44 billion and fourth-quarter revenue of $14.48 billion, according to Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S.

Shares of Intel were up 2.05 per cent in extended trade after closing up 2.13 per cent at $32.14 on Nasdaq.

SSL broken. AGAIN.
From the researchers that brought you BEAST and CRIME comes another attack against Secure Sockets Layer (SSL), one of the protocols that's used to secure Internet traffic from eavesdroppers both government and criminal.

Calling the new attack POODLE—that's "Padding Oracle On Downgraded Legacy Encryption"—the attack allows a man-in-the-middle, such as a malicious Wi-Fi hotspot or a compromised ISP, to extract data from secure HTTP connections. This in turn could let that attacker do things such as access online banking or e-mail systems. The flaw was documented by Bodo Möller, Thai Duong, and Krzysztof Kotowicz, all who work at Google. Thai Duong, working with Juliano Rizzo, described the similar BEAST attack in 2011, and the CRIME attack in 2012.

The attack depends on the fact that most Web servers and Web browsers allow the use of the ancient SSL version 3 protocol to secure their communications. Although SSL has been superseded by Transport Layer Security, it's still widely supported on both servers and clients alike, and is still required for compatibility with Internet Explorer 6. SSLv3, unlike TLS 1.0 or newer, omits validation of certain pieces of data that accompany each message. Attackers can use this weakness to decipher an individual byte at time of the encrypted data, and in so doing, extract the plain text of the message byte by byte.
