Quantum Break Discussion and Screenshots Thread

News Guru
We all love the screenshots thread and we all love talking about our latest purchases, but when it comes to game I have found it very odd that we don't usually have a dedicated gaming thread to share our experiences with some newly released titles.

By now most of you will have heard of Quantum Break, a game that has been highly anticipated and had had an equally large amount of controversy surrounding it.

To start off I think that the game is beautiful, offering visuals that are pretty hard to match in other games, though this also makes this game Ultra-demanding, which is unsurprising given it's 720p 30FPS performance on the Xbox One.

This thread is to talk about and share anything Quantum Break, be it screenshots, rants or videos. I will add my own screenshots here shortly.

My 4K screenshots and initial impressions can be found here.

Keen to try this game but after a little digging ...

- Searched for it but it's W10 and Microsoft Windows Store only; yeah, good luck with that,
- Full screen windowed mode only, so no FPS overlay to see how bad your fps really is,
- No SLI/Crossfire support,
- G-Sync has problems with stuttering,
- No DSR possible, even if you have the hardware,
- Mouse control borked ON A PC GAME, inverted horizontal axis, are you kidding me?

This game is more like Quantum Broke.

Who the hell is in charge at Microsoft at the moment? Do the developers do any software testing at all?

It's UWP. Not really the devs making the game. All those problems you mentioned are limits of UWP. MS are working on fixing all of them. Even freesync an open standard has issues

Yeah, but the more I read the worse it gets:

- no native support for 3440x1440 21:9 aspect for a new pc game
- terribad smeary xbox graphics on a new pc game
- £50 !! for new a PC game?!

Microsoft, go and take a hard [infraction worthy expletive] up your [infraction worthy expletive] [infraction worthy expletive]!!

Tbf, it was more designed for apps, not games in the first place. So it is no surprise that it lacked all these features gamers expect. But they are working on it. Hopefully before they release more games too, for example F6 Apex. Otherwise no one will ever buy those games again and then MS will once again abandon PC gamers.

Seems to me that DX12 games fails to deliver so far.
Was not Dx12 suppose to unleash the performance of our PC's?

It's like buying a Rolls Royce with a mowers engine, plywood seats and no windows.

Dx12 has nothing to do with it. It's UWP that most of the DX12 titles are using. UWP is crap until MS fix it.

In the game that actually uses it right and doesn't use UWP, it makes huge differences, well for AMD at least.

Indeed.

I do think it's inexcusable for a company as large and as experienced as Microsoft to do this - twice no less and in rapid succession. It's either sheer ineptitude or a deliberate act of abandonment to the pc genre.

It doesn't instil confidence going forward.

I forgot to mention the the game is 42GB but streams an additional 33GB of video (only when needed of course, so spread over time). Hope everyone has a good internet connection!

After having played this game and done some benchmarking with AMD's R9 Fury X I can say that the games performance is better than what the early Microsoft bashers have claimed.

I am currently trying an R9 380 and will move onto Nvidia testing tomorrow, but right now on AMD the game runs reasonably. Better than I honestly expected given the anti-hype train going on.

WYP, please don't confuse abject disappointment for Microsoft bashing or anti-hype. This game was a contender for my time since completing the awesome Tomb Raider, and will be back on it when it's fixed and I have installed Windows X-Box Edition (or it comes to Steam).

True, its not. But the original use of UWP was for applications and what not to move to windows store and keep everything updated and convince developers to migrate. It was not least for games, but they should have fixed these issues long ago if they knew what the limitations were

Why are people complaining about the price of pc games these days?

I dont think we can keep expecting to pay the same old prices from years ago. Inflation blah blah.. prices do go up over time for the average consumer product. ;)

It is pricey for a PC game, but why would it be priced lower than the digital Xbox One version.

Historically it has been known that console manufacturers sell their hardware at a significant loss so that it will sell, and then recoup some of that money through higher game prices than the equivalent PC versions. It's been this way for years.

That has happened but not always. Generally there profit margin's are very small in the beginning or outright even(like this gen for Sony at least) but as time goes on it gets pretty profitable. Once they drop prices and profit margins once again get smaller, they typically release the 2.0 version or "Slim" as they call it and have marked it up before a little bit but increase HDD size and add a game bundle to make it seem worth the extra cost.

So this has been on my backlist for ages. Finally got it last week, along with Mafia III and ME : C. Decided to play them in chronological order so this one first.

I like the story, I actually don't mind the graphics and it seems lots of fun to play. I don't like the tearing in cut scenes (even though I have Vsync on) and I don't like the "reverse look" controls. So I went to the controls and it seems there was no way to change the controls. This makes it almost impossible for me to aim.

So I stop playing the game and start Googling for answers. Nothing :S Eventually I watched a video on Youtube and the setting is under Gameplay. What anus holes !

Still, once I can aim (I'm using a controller so I can lay back in my chair) I will enjoy it much more. Not gone for anything above Easy yet, as I am getting old and my eyesight and reactions are slowly going on me.

What's ME: C ?

I still would like to get Quantum Break but I'll wait for a Steam sale.

Mirror's Edge : Catalyst. Screw you for making me type it all :D

It's a very decent game IMO. Especially things like the diamond plate floor and the fact you can read everything on the back of the dude's Tshirts. I just hate how the cut scenes tear like tissue :(

I'll be honest, I read it as Mass Effect :(

I was very confused. Why would Mass Effect 1 make you sad? And why is it newer than QB?
