Q6600 Overclocking Help

Hey,

Im quite a noob at overclocking, and my latest attempt i simply couldnt get it stable.

What i tried was:

Disabled C1E function & EIST Function,

FSB to 1333 (333.9.0) giving 3Ghz,

I set the memory manually to keep it @ 800Mhz

Voltage wise, for the CPU i tried 1.4 & 1.37 v in my bios, however CPU-Z na HWmon reported these as lower (1.4 showed as 1.36). I didnt touch anything else - however i simply couldnt get it stable. When i lowerd the FSP to 1248 to give around 2.8, the motherboard simply reverted to fail-safe bios configs ><

Anyway, this all froze up while running prime95 - max tempreture was 59 deg c btw.

Anybody know how i can perhaps get it stable? :/

Try the voltage at 1.425 or even 1.45.

I think ive got it stable, although prime95 hasnt been running long enough to be sure.

Settings are:

1334 FSB x 9 - 3Ghz

Core voltage: Motherboard: 1.4, CPU-Z / HWMon report as: 1.34v, Max: 1.37 Min: 1.34

Only other setting i changed was the NB voltage, from 1.20v to 1.24v in the motherboard also (dont know how to see this in other programs tho!)

Max temps are around 60deg under 100% load.

They seem ok?

Seems alright to me.. Although 8+ hours of Orthos should be enough to verify that..

If u cant get a stable Overclock theres always some basic things u have to look up to, often it is the vcore that isnt sufficient for the clock, on air i woudnt pass 1.50vcore for 24/7. Secondly often the NB dont get enough juice so u can crank that abit up 2 ( try 1.50-1.55v, and if it is stable u can work your way down) and not to forget proper cooling is a must for stable Overclock, espacially with 4 sticks of ram this is neccasarly. Other things u have to look is the Fsbv, try to stay under 1.50. U really have to play yourself with the settings thats the only way to find out, Use OCCT quick 30 min test if it pass u are on a good direction and can proceed with further testing with a Prime95 overnight run. You'll find that certain clock speeds are "liked" by the mobo. Get in one of them and just do the vCore. BTW what cooler have you got? If its a Tuniq or AC Freezer then you can get away with higher OCs than just 3.0GHz. I hit 3.2GHz (1422 FSB) stable and got 3.6GHz (1600 FSB) long enough for a few hours of CSS. I then started to get errors and thought wise of increasing the voltage so went down again.

What mobo have you got?

As it seems like you've got the basics of overclocking, you just need to find the sweet spot for your vCore. My Q6600 runs smooth as ice at 3,375 (9x375) on a vCore of 1,34265v, and everything else at Auto. Your temps look decent enough, but as stated above, don't go past 1,5v on the vCore. I get about 60 degrees on full load at 3,375 with the Tuniq Tower at full speed. If it goes over 70, it's time to abort. Have a try with the vCore and you'll see that you'll have a stable OC in notime. Good luck.

I have the same cpu and MB, I also set the fsb to 333 but i did a few things differently;

1. I increased the timings of my ram to 6-6-6-18 from 5-5-5-5-15

2. I set the fsb to ram ratio to 5:8 (I think)

3. I set the Vram to 2.1 (Got ocz - check your manufacturer website for maximun safe voltage)

4. Increased the Vcore to 1.375

5. Set the NB Vcore to auto (it shot up to 1.45/1.425) then lowered it to least possible stable amount.
