Pure OC Noob here, FSB voltage question...

Ok well i have a q6600 CPU that was stock, i overclocked it to 2.6 with stock cooling plus i added an intake and side fan so the temps are very good and thats not what im worried about.

Im not looking to overclock it like crazy just testing the waters so to speak for now.

The only concern i have is that the FSB voltage went up im assuming because its on auto and now in the nvidia monitor/ntune programs the little box is red at 1.4 volts, if i turn it down to 1.3 its yellow and at 1.2 it shows green.

Now ive read that unless your Reference clock (FSB) is over around 400+ you don't need to have it at 1.4 volts. Mine is only at 290 lol, so i took it down to 1.3 for now. Should i manually change it back to either 1.2 or even 1.3 to make the box green? Or does that red box only recognize that its over the stock number and not mean its in any danger?

Also if anything else is in a yellow box should i turn those down manually slighty as well to make them green boxes?

Thanks in advance for putting up with probably a super N00b question lol.

I'd try it at stock voltage... as long as your system remains stable, you're fine. That is not a 'high' overclock by any means, so I'm sure stock voltage should be fine.

You shouldn't need to change any voltages at 2.6Ghz so as already suggested, leave voltages at stock. :)

Some BIOSs change colour of voltages from green > yellow > red just to make you aware that you're changing them, rather than to state they're too high. I've seen some DRAM voltages turn yellow at 2.1v before now when some modules require 2.2v according to manufacturers recommendations. Some BIOSs even have a "Crazy" AI overclock setting, which is always worthy of a chuckle or two.

If you need any advice on overclocking your chip some more, just give us a shout - either by PM, email or our website. 3.0ghz should be easily attainable for you. :)

Jut dont exceed 1.50 FSBv for 65nm and your are good. Try to stay under 1.40-1.45 which would be more then enough for up to 450 or abit higher
