Pumps Pumps Pumps

Hello, i am building myself a cheapish watercooling setup (budget £80 :D, not wanting to use a kit)

I have so far chosen the following components:

Alphacool NexXxos HP Pro (very cheap from specialtech)

1/2" Barbs Throuought

7/16 UV orange XSPC tubing

240mm Rad, probably xspc

I am not sure on the Pump that would be suit my needs.

I am currently considering these options:

XSPC single bay (5.25") reservior/pump combo unit

D-TEK DB-1 (i would probably add a swiftec micro-res)

Which would be reccomended?

I am in a small case (pc-a05 by lian li) and so i want to reduce the loop as far as possible. I am also looking at adding a gpu and maybe chipset to the loop at a later date.

If you guys have any comments on my components/reccomendations they'd be very welcome.

The rad you have suggested is very good for the money.

As you have nice orange tubing, you should used distilled water with a biocide. Cheeper than the feser etc.

Get some Yate loon fans: http://www.aqua-pcs.co.uk/fans-209-c.asp

If your really wanting to upgrade to gpu cooling aswell, the pumps will not be sufficient.

Ok: look here, there is a flow rate estimator on XS:

You can put in your conponents. It won't have your cpu block but, you'll soon realise cpu, chipset and gpu will be quite restrictive and you'll need a more powerful pump.

ok DB-1 + microres = £40 ish

Laing pro 10w with res top = £58

Or your best bet get a t-line with a bung, This will replace the res and then get a Laing Pro. This will save space in a small case.

Yeah, the chipset would probably come way later. I am probs not gonna watercool my mobo, seems too much hastle for little gain.

A T-line would work i guess. Probably save space too, as i only have 2 5.25" bays on my case.

I think i will get the d-tek pump, forget watercooling the chipset and simply use a tline instead of a reservior.

Also, do you guys think a 120mm rad with a good fan could cool a q6600 effectively (i'd add another rad when i get my new gpu and watercool it :D), as i am looking at the rather sexy orage xspc rads (see the colour scheme coming xD)

ps, reps for you cl0ck-ed :D

a single rad like fesers XCH or whatever they are called can do so, but they cost £40 a pop, certainly space saving

hmm, this watercooling business is awfully expensive :(

I'd say after researching and hunting around, that i dont think i can afford a decent watercooling setup that will compete with the likes of high-end air cooling. Water would look awesome, but it is too heavy and expensive for now :(

Thanks for your help though guys, i will definately keep it in my mind though.

I'd say without skimping, Cpu only loop your looking at around £160.

Upgrading from this would be a simple as adding additional blocks eg: chipset extra £20, Gpu extra £30 etc....

Unfortunately i dont have £160 to spend :P

I am gonna be upgrading my gpu soon anyways, so i need the money for that.

If your using an A05 case and only running a single rad it would make sense to just get the db-1 pump, you don't need the extra ooph that the DDC gives unless you're planning on changing cases and getting a bigger cooling setup. :)
