Pulled the trigger - Samsung NC20

Well I've been looking into Netbooks / ultra portables for near on a month now and have been trying to decide which to get.

I'll be using it on holiday as a video player (sold my 7" portable DVD player) as well as the usual netbook / notebooky things when I'm back.

For the holiday reason though it wanted to be small, cool running and last most of a flight.. Oh yeah and also not too expensive.

Was looking at a cheapo Medion Akoya on deal at Sainsburys for just under £200 which was a 10" but the build quality is meant to be poo.

Then I had my heart set on the NC10 due to battery life and looks. Thing is the track pad was meant to be a pain as well the resolution isn't great anything up to 10".

Theeeeeen the NC20 caught my eye. Obviously it was getting a little more expensive, but after quite a bit of research it seems it's a solid machine. Not too heavy and battery life isn't too bad at around 4:30 - 5:00 of non stop video playing off a single charge. They also sorted out the small trackpad issue and kept the same quality keyboard from the NC10 but just bigger.

Also quite looking forward to checking out the VIA Nano.

This obviously needed the girlfriends permission as she was halving the cost with me but she loved it straight away which makes a change. She was telling me we're having that one which made my decision much easier!!

Aaaaaaanyway, I bought it last night for £379 off Amazon. Also bought a 2GB 800MHz DDR2 module of RAM for it from Play for £16 and a 3.5mm headphone splitter for like £2.

Will get pics up when it arrives.

Aaah man I can't be doing that... If I wanted to be doing that I'd apply for the OC3D Reviewer job!!!

Hmmm maybe I will, we'll see.

You shall definitely have pics and then a bit of a log on my efforts to get the thing to triple boot XP/Win7/Ubuntu.

There's a custom NC20 version of OSX knocking about the net too...why not throw that in the mix lol :p

Hi Jim,

I would love to install OSX on my NC20, but unfortunately I cannot find it anywhere on the internet. Can you please help me with that?

Thanks!

My house mate has the nc10 for messing around on, nice little thing with a superb battery. Whacked in better ram too (800mhz) but it would only run at 533mhz iirc... Zero issues and I borrow it from time to time.

Hope you enjoy the nc20

^ yes, it is easy to install OSX on NC10 because of its intel processor, but NC20 is making issues because of its VIA processor.!

Can't say I've tried with it to be honest.

Stuck Windows 7 on it at the time of buying but have fiddled around with it very little since as I haven't had the time really.

Can't say I ever found much info on it though in the brief time I searched.

Even Ubuntu seemed difficult enough.

hmm, ok.

But can any one lead me to a tutorial or a torrent link where I can download the custom version of Mac OS X for the NC 20 as JIM said it is out there??

Please guys, I need this urgent!!

Nice one, Bungy!

I think you will be very happy with it. A couple of months ago I ordered the Eee PC 1005HA which has been very solid.

Been running Backtrack 4, Easy Peasy and a stripped down XP. Performance is great.

Hope you enjoy it man! ;)
