PSU pop...

So I was running on a 600cx power supply without issues for about two months but I decided I would like to upgrade my system to a more powerful one(hopefully SLI or Crossfire). I then bought a Corsair AX850. After a few days of general usage without issues I turned the power on to the power supply and a large pop emitted following a burning smell from the power supply. I have requested an RMA with the place I bought it from but do you think this was the right thing to do?

Edit: Although it still powers the computer on I didn't attempt putting it under any load as I was worried about it blowing up.

Yes you definitely did the right thing, sounds like something has certainly blown. Unusual for a Corsair unit but not every unit can be perfect. Hopefully the next one will be fine.

Yeah you definitely did the right thing, you probably received a bad unit, but Corsair's customer service is very good so you should receive a replacement in no time at all

Yeah big pop is a no go. Was just my luck when building my first PC that my Hale90 i ordered (my original PSU) exploded as soon as i switched it on. RMA'd it but none in stock so got a corsair HX instead and couldn't be happier

when it come to your psu you should always deal with corsair as this can avoid any costs i.e rma bulls**t

I would send it to Corsair but unfortunately I would need to post it to the Netherlands which is not cheap.

use the link i posted and have a good look around the site paying for postage is one thing but when it come to geting it fixed the it just like buying from argos
