psu or new cpu ?

hi.

have an antec truepower 380w S works very good and last time i checked it roughly 1 year 3 months ago the V on all 3 rails was well within limits.

3200+ winchester 2.43ghz

k8n sli-fi

7800gt 455/590

leastek tv-card

creative audigy 2

2 harddrives

1 dvd-rw

2 120mm casefans

2x512mb pc4000

is what i have now and its all good and stable.

can the psu handle a new cpu for example an overclocked opteron 165 or 3800+ x2 instead of my old winny ?

exhaust air from the psu is at the moment 33.5 celsius and case temp is 30-31 celsius measured with a third party sensor.

temp was checked with windows running and superpi 32m to push cpu power consumption so doesnt seem to run hot at the moment.

3.3v=28a 5v=35a 12v=18A 3.3v+5v+12v=360w

this is a psu tomshardware managed to pull 471w from before the psu failed for them.

so whats the verdict ?

Regards

Raven

both is comming but at the moment i would rather get a new cpu and then later on a new psu when i for a stronger gfx card.

I put my vote in for new cpu... the psu should be fine for now, but I'd definately have a look at the PCP&C's down the road.

If they are a bit too expensive for ya there in the UK it might be worthwhile to have one of us Americans ship one over to ya. Might be able to save a considerable amount.

yea your psu should do fine with a new proc.

hiper 580w mod's are cool,i have one and it does a good job, decent price tag too.

cheers.

I'd get a new CPU. Worst case scenerio you pick up another more powerful Antec True Power. They're great PSU's :)

pc&p is out f the question, will buy a psu localy incase of trouble and make it easier if i have to use the warranty.

if i would go out tomorrow to buy a psu it would probably be one of these.

antec truepower 30a 12v

tagan 480w

nuuo 16+18a 12v

antec tp2 18+18a 12v

zalman 460w 16+18a 12v

xion 500w 30a 12v

yea go with tagan :) cheap and fantastic, got a 580 in mine, doesn't even blink with sli :)

Tagan FTW. Same internals as the OCZ PSU's. Insane output, very reliable. Get one!

Yep!! They're extremely quiet too, and mine runs pretty cool especially for the system I have.

X1800XT @ 700/800 & a 3200+ @ 2.7Ghz, 1.6v vCore

Cpu/psu

Wouldnt worrie about problems with psu verymuch i would go for the best online deal i could find its rare to need to send sumething back. well with my experience anyways the extra saving u make online and the lack of shops that sell custom pc gear infact i know of nowere round that sells custom pc stuff......... :'(

cpu upgrade best bet though..

i sleep better at night ;)

joke beside i have a local store with prices that can sometimes both match and be lower than some online stores and the money i would save MIGHT be enough for a pizza.

my local store is also a good one.

been looking mostly at tagan in the past and sounds like a good stable psu but i definitly wont buy the turbojet 1100w wayyyyyyy to expensive.

abit curious about the exhaust air temp, what is considered high for an antec truepower 380w S ?

antec hasnt specified anything else than mtbf 80.000 hours 25celsius.

ehaustair temp has been as high as 35celsius and it was earlier today when i played nfsu and the gfx card started to draw power.

35 is no probs at all. A couple of the silverstone's i recently tested were pumping out around 35oc under load.

34.3celsius with a roomtemp of 26.8celius and a casetemp of 31celsus at the moment.

took alook on a couple of the reviewed psu's and they had a higher difference in the in/out air then i have so seems safe as it is.

Affirmative Raven, those temps are fine. And as Kempez said at least the heat is being gotten rid of out of the case.
