PSU Fan change

Hi like the topic says i got some question for a fan chnage for the psu, lets start from the begining of the problem:

A couple of days ago one off my fans it the pc started to go nuts when i was playing and i didnt thoungt so much about it, i thoujght it might just be thegpu that was hot so i checked and it was normal, and normal for me is high but it didnt sound like the gpu had sounded before.

So i putted the fan speed down do 40% (dead silence) normaly but it cept going.
So i assume it must be the psu, as all other case and spu fans is noctua and is on resistors.

Got a Corsair TX 650W btw, and i checked the cfm of the fan that is in there and its 140cfm at 12v at 2800rpm,

And my question is what fan i should replace it with and is it possible to throw in a the new noctua nf-a14 in there, i assume no as it's only at 60cfm at 12v but i thought while i was on it why not ask?
(reason why, is because i'm working on a case modding with noctua as theme)

Thanks, Raawmeat

You can replace the fan with any other fan that fits, as long as it provides adequate cooling. You may have to do some soldering, as some power supplies have the fan connectors soldered in, rather than plugged in.

Yeah i know i have to fix the connector somehow, i got that coverd.
But would the noctua fan maybe work?
What i have been told you cant trust the different value the companies say their fan has, as their test aint always the same.

And im also only using a 570 if that has anything with how much my psu should work, and that brings to the question why the fan started to spin up all of a sudden.

Because the fan's speed is controlled by the PSU just try to match it as closely as possible to the existing fan.

You could have a faulty PSU, or a faulty fan. You could open it up and try another fan and see if it's behaving the same way. If it is then the PSU's fan speed controller is broken or the PSU is getting too hot for some reason. You should take everything in consideration assuming that things like that shouldn't happen into normal circumstances. Check if the PSU is overheating, and if it's not then test the PSU with another fan.

Ok, i dump the fan change then.
And i got it covered now, the airflow was blocked, that was the reason the fan cranked up. One of the plastic sheets in the psu had somehow turned and blocked the airflow.

And thanks for all help guys

Yeah I knew that the PSU was overheating... the fan wouldn't start spinning up like that for no reason... Heat would be the first thing to check. Glad it was something minor.
