PSU 8-pin help

My new psu (PC power and cooling silencer mk III 600w) and case (cm 690 II B&W) arrived today, so I thought I'd start sorting some of the cabling out before my other components arrive. I installed the psu (fan facing up), but I noticed that the wired 8-pin cable is just too short to reach where the socket will be on the motherboard. However, the psu also comes with an extra 8-pin modular cable that can be installed closer to the grommet, meaning that it would be able to reach fine. My question is would I be able to use the extra 8-pin cable instead of the wired 8-pin one? i.e would it provide exactly the same amount of power?

Thanks
