Hello,

On the Antec CP-1000 PSU there is the 1 x 8 pin EPS 12v connector and the 4+4 pin ATX/EPS connector. I'm running 1 CPU and have the 4+4 pin ATX/EPS connector plugged. Is the 8 pin EPS 12v connector for dual CPU motherboards that may want more power connectors or what? and, can it run a -------- card 8 pin socket, if it fits

In Antec's description is this: •Electrical compliance with ATX12V version 2.3 and EPS version 2.91

What is EPS?

motherboards designed to the Server System

Infrastructure (SSI) specification
. (Not ATX12V)

from Wiki

EPS12V is defined in SSI, and used primarily by SMP/multi-core systems such as Core 2, Core i7, Opteron and Xeon. It has a 24-pin main connector (same as ATX12V v2.x), an 8-pin secondary connector, and an optional 4-pin tertiary connector. To ensure backwards compatibility with ATX12V, many power supply makers implement the 8-pin connector as two combinable 4-pin connectors.

Simples

Some motherboards like the supermicro x6dal-b2 I have require an 8 pin connector for the processors and a four pin connector that I suspect is used to provide the required 12V 1A power required for the dual gigabit ethernet. Generally, the eight pin is used for dual processor and the four pin for single processor.
