PS3 game resolution

Ok I trully don't understand how resolution works for PS3 games.

First I have a sharp aquos FullHD TV which works from 480, 720, 1080i to 1080p and the PS3 starts as expected in 1080p.

Now I bought 3 games:

LAIR which is compatible with 720, 1080i and 1080p

Assassin's creed compatible with 720p and 1080i

COD4 compatible with 720, 1080i and 1080p

As written on the backside of the box.

So when I play LAIR, the output resolution is 1080p, everything is good.

Assassin's creed on the other hand runs only at 720p and so does COD4. I try to see if there is a setting in the game option for the resolution but nada!

And when I quit the game the output resolution switches back to 1080p.

Can anyone tell me what's wrong and how I can "force" COD4 and Assassin7s creed to run at the hgher resolution?

Uncheck 720p in the video options menu

thanks vader, it solved the problem apparently.

but then if I have a game that only works in 720p, will it still work or do I need to activate the 720p resolution again.

one other thing is that I don't understand why the game does not autodetect and start in the highest resolution possible. Seems to work for LAIR but not for the 2 others.

Sorry for the really late reply, I'm sure you got the answer already.

Anyways, when games run in 720P instead of 1080, it's because 720 is their native resolution. On the Xbox360 and PS3, very few games actually run at 1080, most are 720. In fact, Halo 3 was below 720P, running at 6xx. So when you uncheck 720P, you end up upscaling the game to 1080, while 720 is Assasin Creed and CoD4's native resolution.
