Project: White Lightning by XMS/Jim

Ok, there's no denying that the past two projects that I've promised to start haven't materialised. Unfortunately the overclocking/mods seem to be unhappy with me at the moment and have dished me out a tonne of bad luck.

So here we go...project #3 of 2008. This time round I'm not going to tell you what hardware is going in there....you'll just have to follow the log ;)

Today i got this:

A pair of Powercolor 3870's, and a pair of Swiftech MCW60-T's (Waterblocks with 180w peltiers).

I pulled the stock heatsinks off, masked them up and sprayed them with conformal coating front and back to prevent condensation when the get nice and chilly.

Lubed up the GPU area to further ensure that any water droplets don't kill the cards.

Put it all together :)

Nice!!!

Although, wont the card go upto 180w heat, which will mean the pelt has now effect? that also means your taking an extra 360w.. be green people :P

Only joking, looks awesome man, looking forward to updates.

The card at stock is 101w iirc. TBH I'm no expecting sub-zero's under load anyway.

lets hope it doesnt live upto its name

and that you dont have cheep tacky white cider flowing round the watercooling :p lol

Damnit...you spoilt the surprise :p

I wondered when you'd start posting... I'm open to bribes if people want more pics :p

Looking good my man, hope this one runs smoother than the last!

Sorry 2 be annoying, but not 2 familiar with this peltier stuff.

I thought this was the whole one hot side one cold side thing, but I thought that went like directly onto the CPU/GPU.

Is this like that but with liquid, then the liquid is cooled at another point in a loop or something?

Slightly confused :D

Oh right, wickid :D

How risky is it? Sounds like something cool to try out on CPU.

I did my e6600 with a 340w pelt iirc.

Not risky if you insulate like Jim has shown you how. Temps vary depending on TDP of item you are cooling... I got -13.5 on my e6600 but I messed it up, could have gotten better temps.

WinMXer how's that stuff working out for you?
