Project Speedy

OK, everything is bought, and we're just waiting for the processor to arrive before we start building. This is for my partner, who doesn't like naming his computers, so I'm giving the project his nickname instead.

Motherboard: ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe

Processor: Opteron 146 CABNE

RAM: VDATA Memory Expert DDR400(3) 1Gx16 (I've never heard of it, but it's what we have for now)

Hard drives: 2x Maxtor 200GB (but only shows 127GB- any suggestions?)

Graphics card: GeForce 6600 GT PCI-Express (SLI ready)

Case: Some random one from the local computer shop with tons of fans stuck on it

Cooling: Akasa Evo 33 (you can probably tell we were running out of money... :p)

Monitor: Random 20" CRT we were given

Total cost (excluding stuff salvaged from what we had): just under £500 (some items we paid extra for by supporting our local businesses... meaning we couldn't be arsed to wait for deliveries ;))

I can't wait for the processor to arrive so I can get this baby working :)

You need to slipstream a windows installation CD with SP2 and format the HD when installing.

I think there's a guide on here about slipstreaming.

Yup... done it... though he wants IE and Outlook Express on his, and I'm out of CDs. Will have to find some tomorrow, so I can do a new disc for him.

No thanks... tempting as it is, he'd probably wreck my pc. He uses hotmail far too much, and doesn't like Firefox (though I can't figure out why)

EDIT: It didn't work- at the format stage it's only detecting 127GB. BIOS detects all 250GB though (I made a mistake when asking him).

We had another problem with this project too- the RAM is dead. Gonna buy him some decent stuff soon, but until then, he's got 256MB ram with a processor currently running at 2.8GHz... :p
