Did you go with the freezespray to get the heatsink assembly off or just pry it off?

Nope, I didn't use the freezepray at all, it just came off quite easy with a little tweak. So I don't know what I use for the freezespray?! Anyway thanks for your info and help mate.:worship:

This project is lookin well decent, those fans look the business! great job mate.

Thanks, try to do my best.

Very nice job so far buddy.

One thing, won't that SB cooler get in the way if you're going to have multiple graphics cards? In CrossFire or something like that or are you sticking with one card?

Nice work on the lapping.. I don't want to do that with my CPU LOL I don't want to break it! :worship:

I paln to use 4870X2 so if I need Crossfire I go for the small heatsink :)

Nowhere stock the 4870 X2 water block so I my change my cooling loop. Otherwhile my rig take forever to finish...missing my game:o

Its look massive, just a tiny gap between gfx and SB heatsink. My SB will be toasting with the heat of it:

And a fan control in place, look cool isn't it :p

Looking good! The 4870x2 fan will actually pull all the hot air right off the southbridge heatsink so it'll be fine. Also if you're quick they seem to have stock here and here

Thanks for that link mate, hope I sort it out later. I had a serious leak yesterday, have to took all the water loop out ..... so annoying:sleep::sleep::(

:o:o

GPUs are always hotter than CPUs. Your system needs to be watercooled completely simply because the heat soak of the 4870x2 into the CPU loop will mean toasty temps.

Thanks for your advice, get the 4870X2 bock soon:p

I got a problem after fit the waterblock on 4870X2, when turn my pc on I only see a few second "post screen" and its gone blank. Via theAsus LCD post its was normal. Anyone has the same card and fit the water block on with the same problem? please help me out. Many thanks.

Ah.. and along the edge of the card its has 5 red LED the second from the right was on all the time which is not happen before when I test the card with stock colling.

Here the pic of the edge of the card where the LED is:

I BELIEVE that is a common cause, the EK block uses metal washers around the MOSFET area, if you can use paper washers it should work fine, or something along those lines afaik. I think the idea is they become shorted and do not work.

Next to the LED there should be numbers (like 1601 on my 4870) can you tell us what light is lit up as that way you can hopefully know more whats going on

Thanks for mention me about washers but all of them was make by paper. And I can't see any number along those LED but its have this "D13".

That makes sense my GTX blocks have paper washers for that reason

Thanks for this mate.

Finally I made it work, thanks god after 6hrs. I found the block not contact well to the GPU, after I remove the thermal pad from all the memory and replace with some TIM on, put the block back, took it out again to see how well its contact the GPU, its came out perfect. Many thanks mates. :worship:

More work to do and my rig nearly finish:yumyum: can't wait to install my game back.:wavey:

Same issue for me, but I assumed you weren't as newbie as me :D My core just overheated after about 20seconds, but I actually got a POST display so I knew the card lived, otehrwise I may have cried. Glad you got it all sorted, I also had the memory pads on but the extra height ment the GPU was not in contact I think, so like you thermalpaste done it for me. It appears our problems were quite similar!
