Project Christmas Overtime

As I get the pleasure of working Christmas and Boxing day this year (and getting paid tripple time for it), I will have a handy sum of money to play with come January 15th - hmmm, Christmas overtime payday!

So, I have decided to create a new machine, just for the sake of it really - because I can. I am sure a number of you there could probably relate with my current line of thinking.

Anyhow, this is what I have in mind.... at the moment

Case : Lian Li PC-V1000

PSU : Tagan Dual Engine TG600-25

Operating System HDD : Western Digital SATA 320gb 7200rpm

Main HDD : Samsung SAMSUNG 400GB 8MB 7200RPM SATA

Current Cost : £370.65

(I am writing this thread as I make up my mind what I want, I will be adding more things to the list when I have made a decision. The items above are what I have already decided upon - unless some sound advice NOT to get them is given by one of you nice people)

I have heard a bunch of people like the Tagan Power Supplies...( I like the Silverstones)

And I have 3 of the WD 160 gig 16mb buffer HDDs and really like them.

And WELCOME to OC3D!!!

hmm, just been thinking about the OS side of things. Now with a HDD big enough - would I be able to partition the HDD, install Vista on one part, and XP on the other half, then choose which one I want to run on start up?

oooh goody goody, is there a tutorial for that on oc3d?

Not that i know of. Its not too hard tbh. You need to install xp & a partitioning program and then install vista on the partition you make with the program.

Right, after a little research, I have decided to move away from my original choice of the Lian Li PC-V1000 and have decided to go to the Antec P180.

2 reasons for it really, 1) cost - a factor that really dictates how fast I can move forward on the project and 2) I do like the look of it.

Does anyone think that is a bad idea?

OOhhh they are gonna be mad at you...They love LianLi here:D

Honestly cases should be a personal choice (you are the one thats got to look at it)

Well ill let you know how good the Antec is in about 4 days or so. Mines on the way soon(ish):p.

If you can afford it though go for the lain. I would have but i got a very good deal on the P180b:p

Im keeping to my decision with the case that I have chosen, just out of interest, what case is 100% to your taste?

A Lian Li cube/any Lian Li server chassis or perhaps a nice Silverstone. I quite like the CM Stacker but not sure I could go back to one after owning a Lian li
