Project: About time

As some of you know, I've been planning to go water cooled for some time now. I actually bought most of my kit at the end of February last year. I've only now had the time to finally do this. I saw my first water cooled PC about 12 years ago on FM. Since then it's always something I've wanted to do.

This is how my PC looked before starting. There should be another 470 in there as well, but no pics of that.

I spent most of the morning preparing everything. I had to clean out the rads (PITA) and prepare my current rig. This involved removing the front, top, disconnecting some wiring, removing part of the HDD bays, removing video cards, and taking out the hard drives. I left the PSU and motherboard in.

In my excitement I forgot to take pics of my progress. I have the cooling all assembled and am leak testing the system.

Everything has gone fairly well so far. I had to put the factory top back on my pump as the pump wouldn't fit behind the rad on the floor with the XSPC top on it.

If all goes well tonight, I will be fitting my parts back into the case and should be able to see temps while folding. My i7 at 3.4GHz would hit as high as 80C sometimes while folding. I plan on running 4.0-4.2 folding with this. I've benched at those speeds no problem, but the H50 can't keep up.

Are you gonna add any colour to the water? It'll be nice to see it without all those paper towels.

Not sure about color yet, for now no.

I was a little paranoid about leaks lol. Overnight there were none so I'll get some more shots after everything is back together...without the paper towel.

Graphics at some point, but not with these 470s. When I go back to a single high end card I will add it to the loop, probably next year some time when I do a complete rebuild. Going for a bigger case too. It was tight fitting everything in.

I'm folding right now at 50C! Only been on for about 10 mins though. With the H50 I would idle in the mid 50s. I'm going to let it go like this for a little while, need to get the house ready for a New Year's party. If I get a chance I'll bump it up to 4.2GHz and see how she does.

Just normal distilled with some PT nuke and I put a silver kill coil in the res.

55C after hours of folding, very pleased with the results.

thought thats what it was but anted to make sure I'm thinking about changing my fluid soon and as $$$ is tight atm was looking at Distilled water

Looks good, but needs gfx cards watercooled aswell

I agree, but 470 blocks are pricey. Next year I'll probably get rid of them and opt for a top end single card. By then the water in the loop will need to be changed anyway so it will be a good time to add a GPU to it.

Set the CPU clock to 4GHz this morning, up from 3.4. Been folding all day with temps at 62C.
