Problems with your 7900gt's ?

from wot ive gathered (like a sponge) ati make the better cards but nvidia utilises them better?

At the moment - as in right now: ATI have a much better IQ than nVidia but nVidia's high-end 7950 GX2 is faster.

ATI's drivers are a bit "bloaty" (imho) and nVidia's are lighter and better to use.

BUT having said that I kind of regret getting rid of my X1900XTX :(

I've been a real ATI fan - I had 9000, 9700, 9800 and X800 class cards. However, I felt that they really dropped the ball when SLI came along - it seemed like a botched, rushed riposte when they launched Crossfire. The whole CF solution seemed flakey, contrived and limited. Being an AMD fan, when I built a new system it made sense to go for an NF4 SLI board. The decision now is tricky...

This may be going off topic, but is the general consensus that the 7900 GT is - poo!? I just bought two of them! The EVGA signature ones... I got two for the price of one so I quickly read a few reviews, thought they looked good and steamed in...

Please, tell me i haven't wasted my cash...

I believe evga where one of the only manufacturers that didnt overclock their cards (either that or they didnt take them so far it caused trouble).

ATi no doubt has better visual quality, and they dominate the single-card segment by a large margin but when multiple cards (7950 inlcluded) are compared, SLi takes the lead. It's no surpise, NVIDIA's multi-card solution is much more logical and appears to be more thought out and sensible.

That being said, I recently went from an X1900GT to a 7900GS, and I've noticed one interesting thing. The 7900GS at stock tends to get the same or only a few less FPS compared to my X1900GT, which was heavily overclocked. In benchmarks, the X1900GT took the lead, but I guess that makes the rumor true. ATi = bench numbers, nV = game FPS.

Having played around with all the latest High-end card ATI's cards (right now) are far superior with IQ

nVidia's are good in game FPS, but then if you're spending that amount of money then you want it to look good. The only downside to ATI is that they're drivers feel a bit slow and "bloaty" - .NET is a bit rubbish imo
