Problem with DVI - DSub connections and no image

Got a weird one here, as usual!

For some reason my main system here (the red one) will not always display a picture when connected via DVI - but its 100% reliable using a D-Sub connector. I can get it working occasionally, like yesterday for instance, on two reboots it worked fine - but today (after cold booting) it will only work with the D-Sub. It's incredibly annoying. Anyone any ideas?

I'm using a Viewsonic VP201b 20" TFT and a GTX 7800.

Edit: I will try swapping the DVI cable over next.

I actaully blew a DVI on my rig - so seems like a good place to start Phil - Scorchio has a point too - especially if using Rivatuner, sometimes I have to uninstall Riva (including removing registry entries) to update the drivers.

Also try a different monitor (dont think it will eb that though)?

I have never had a problem with my old trusty 17" tft its an eizo, but I remember we had that problem with other pc wouldnt hook up to the crt ??

Do you have a spare dvi cable??

Mav how did you blow a dvi up???

Hook up a crappy monitor and set a slow resolution.

Then hook up the the viewsonic with DVI and take it from there.

I'm using the latest official dets by the way guys, and the refresh rate and all that monty is set accordingly @ 1600x1200 @ 60 which is perfectly fine for TFT's. I will try a different DVI cable first of all, at which point I may need to flash the firmware perhaps? I'm using an MSI GTX.

Nope!! It's very odd. I dont know if its a problem with the TFT or VGA. I tried a different cable. Generally after a cold boot the system will not show a signal - if I reset the system once it then does!

I get that too sometimes - probs twice a week is the GPU watercooled? could be a cold start issue or didgy mobo BIOS?

Mav

hmm there's a thought! Is it watercooled yes. The bios on the motherboard is the latest official 1009 so nothing dodgy about that.

My card is running at about 35 idle.

LOL i love that, get a warmer room comment mav. Just for future reference, how can flashing the BIOS help unless its a modded BIOS? I've never really played with nVidia cards, only ATI's so things are obviously different.

I think he meant flash it to a modded bios - one with higher voltage, or one with a lower temp threshold.

Crazy to think we need things hotter though... :P

Phil mav can mod the BIOS for you i believe. He's modded his ones so think he's the best one to talk to about that. I believe he's also increased the standard core speed on his GTX's.

Just outa interest is this your own personal PC? Thought you were running a lappy but may be behind times again lol.
