Prepare for the new SR-3

Finally EVGA has announced that they are readying there new Dual LGA2011 x79 Motherboard. Good lord, I can only imagine this monstrosity sense the addition of Quad Channel Memory and a bigger CPU Socket

Oh

I was hoping this was new news! Well it says that this should be ready only a month after. That should be december/january really shouldn't it? Considering the latest leaked slides

AFAIK, SB-E (LGA2011) isn't out until jan/feb 2012... so with the SR-3 being one month after that = feb/mar... but i think 02/2012 is a little optimistic

EDIT: my theology = think AND prepare for the worst... if anything else happens, it is a bonus

The sr-2 allowed you to use one CPU and add the second one in at a later stage if you wanted to.

Can this new sr-3 run on just one CPU or do you have to put 2 CPU's in the motherboard? reason I'm asking is that i want to get one but i can only get the mobo and one cpu for now. This way i can save for other parts and add the second CPU a few months later

we know how the xeons work on the SR-2

but... until SB-E comes out we will not know

... and hence cannot stipulate on whehter the new SR-3 will need 1 or 2 LGA2011's in order to function correctly

I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work with one Xeon. The SR-2 has a jumper to disable either socket entirely so that you can isolate individual CPUs.

I think it's a function of the xeon chip/chipset itself, not the board. Every dual socket xeon server board I have used has been able to do 1 cpu. You're right though, we won't know for sure until it's out. I can't imagine EVGA crippling an enthusiast board though.

bloodyhell dual cpu mobo's!?

christ lol The sort of games they could handel well, it beggars belief tbh. I assume the GPU's would then be the botttleneck in the system?

I would love this, a Case Labs TH10, and 4 MSI lightning 7970's or 4 MSI lightning GTX680's(which ever turns out to be the better performer of course.) and watercool the whole damn thing!
