Pre-applied thermal compound or Arctic Silver 5...?

Just bought a Corsair H100 and was wondering if someone knows how good the pre-applied thermal compound is and if it's worth trying to get rid of it and instead apply your own Arctic Silver 5? And if yes the never ending million dollar question...when applying your own thermal compound like Arctic Silver 5 should you apply a thin, even layer covering the whole CPU cooler block or should you just apply a lump in the middle (or maybe in the form of a cross) and then let it spread by itself when you mount the cooler onto the CPU? I've seen and heard so many schools on this subject but I never really understood what is the best method doing it...?

Anyone in here tried both with a H100 and can share the difference if any it made?

I'll be cooling a 2700K that I hope I'll be able to overclock to about 5 GHz with the H100 and I'll also be adding 2 additional fans to the H100 for a push pull config for maximum performance.

Thanks in advance for your input guys!

I'd stay away from AS5 unless you're ultra careful, as if you get any in your CPU socket it could fry your board. Look for something non-conductive like Noctua NT-H1 or Arctic MX-4

I've heard this so many times over the last year or so and it seem bonkers to me !

Who splashing around so much tim that they get it anywhere near circuitary ?!?! Use this stuff cos it's non-conductive... eh ???

Sure if you open your case and spray the shizzle around generally, get some non conductive safe stuff.

But you need, literally, a minute squirtage centrally to your cpu, that I can't even imagine how you could get it anywhere but there. AS5 is a nice little cyringe too, even the pre-supplied stuff can at-worse, come in a "squirty bag"... just trim a small bit of the corner and squeaze-easy.

No tearing it open like a bag of crisps with you teeth !!
