PowerSupply or heat issue?

Hey guys, I'm having a problem with my PC at the time. Whenever it is put under-load by anything lets say FurMark, or Counter-Strike it shuts down.

When stressing on FurMark it goes for about 10 seconds and the computer just kicks the bucket and shuts off. On Counter-Strike, on the other hand, it takes a good 2-5 minutes before it shuts off. I'm almost positive that it is either a Power Supply issue or a heat problem.

Here are my specs:

  • AMD Phenom x4 9600 2.3Ghz STOCK - With the STOCK cooler
  • Zotac nForce 750a SLI Motherboard
  • 2x Nvidia GeForce 8800 GTS 512 STOCK - Stock coolers
  • 2x 2gb 800Mhz DD2 Ram
  • XION 630Watt Powersupply - 43 Amps total on the DUAL 12v rails
  • 250GB HDD
  • 1TB HDD

Here is what SpeedFan tells me. This is idling after about 30mins running.

Please give me some feedback guys.

well if ur idling at 46c on ur cpu and then load it up it may well be cpu is over heating. But not knowing the power draw of dual 8800's on a 630watt psu it may be that as well but I'd star with the overheating. Using a stock hsf (heatsink fan) I see when was the last time you retimmed the cpu and did a good dusting inside???? even still stock hsf's suck also I note ur gpu's are running hot have you retimmed them???? another thing I see is it looks like ur 12v rail is only running at 9.22volts thats bad lol way bad. so there are several things to look at there bro I would if it was mine and had some funds available replace the psu and retim it all.

All my thermal compound is how its been straight from the start since I've built the PC two years ago. I do keep the PC very clean though.

Is it possible that the under-voltage could cause the shutdowns?

I am doubting that heat is the issue since it crashes almost instant on FurMark, but still I won't put it out of speculation.

yes it is very to absolutly possible that 12v rail is the culprit but it can also still be heat lol I would start with swapping out the psu first.

Yes, I'll swap that out as soon as I can get enough cash, so I can get back to Counter-Strike lol!

I'm curious, what PSU you would recommend for my system?

EDIT: I got my multimeter to test the PSU, just incase. The molex gave me 12v, what could be the problem If I'm getting the correct voltage?

well thats good news there that the psu is pushing the proper voltages but I wonder if the board is getting 12v thru as its being reported at 9volts. Could very well be an inaccurate recording of it. I wouyld look at temps now and retim at least the cpu and see if it corrects the issue

I'm planning on picking up the Corsair h50 from bestbuy for $50, that will hopefully keep the temps down.
