PowerPC G5 case

I've had a dead G5 laying around for quite a while now and for a long time I've been thinking about using the case in a build. I've decided to go with the idea.

I will have to make my own motherboard tray, and butcher the case a little bit to fit a watercooling loop in.

parts for the build would be roughly:

32GB Mushkin Enhanced Redline Ridgeback #994057 (8x4GB) 1600 CL 7-7-7-24 @ 1.65V

ASUS SABERTOOTH X79, Sockel 2011, ATX, DDR3

Crucial M4 128GB SSD 6,4cm (2,5")

Dell U2711

WD Caviar Green 2,5TB, SATA 6Gb/s

Intel Core i7-3930K Retail, ohne Kühler, LGA2011 (Or IB alternative.)

I'm trying to decide between a Quadro 4000 or a GK110 when that is out.

The build will be for mainly video editing and rendering, photoshop and related things, but I would also like to be able to game, which the quadro card would just downright not allow me to do.

I'm torn for choice with cooling for this project.

It would be a shame not to fill this with a great watercooling loop. I have no idea what to do in this regard. I am yet to plan the layout of this case so I don't know where I could fit a radiator. The current cooling solution in the case it actually very impressive, I had no idea Apple did this

Everything has at least three screws holding it in place. Gaah.

This will be a summer project but I will be slowly doing some of the work between now and then. I aim for this to be completed by the end of June, luck permitting.

Also, the door on the case is scratched slightly in a few places and I don't think I'll be able to live with it. Anyone have any ideas how to fix this? I may have to spray it a generic silver colour :[

it depends on how deep those scratches r.

if it's very light u can use some rubbing compound.

if it's not very deep u can sand them with a low grit sand paper and then resand with higher grit sand paper until no scratches r visible or "feelable" to ur hand

if it's deep u'll need some bondo or filler.

I've seen kits for modding g5 cases to accept atx without have to get the dremel out... Will try find the link for ya.....

What cooling mech is that in there? Liquid?

Yeah, it's pretty good.

I got some 2004 ish dual ppc x2 ones that work pretty well with it. (stick on leopard and load it up with 8g ddr2 and they work well, with some tweaks)

Quiet a bit more obtrusive than the current Corsair Hxxx series, but hey 7/8 years earlier.

Will try sand them down, they're only very slight scratches.

Seems to be!
