Power usage

Right, I just got asked another power usage question at college for someone's comp before they built and I said that they should upgrade their PSU as i doubted it would be powerful enough:

x2 4800+

x1900xt

1*raptor, 1*400GB drive

snd card - xfi

PSU: 420W.

mobo: dfi nf4 (no sli).

420W would be pushing it right? 500W is the minimum?

thanks all.

Get a quality 500W PSU, it will last you for ages and will probably be more efficient that a very strained 420W.

no name 420w psu and they spend that much on hardware..

Idiot asking for a problem... PSU's should not be overlooked!

As about, 480-600w should be considered... Quality 480-600 that is.

Reason why the person was being so cagey in asking for help is because the psu is integrated into the case - it's an aspire x-qpack you see as I have now found out.

So they will have to get another case :S

I recommended the lian-li V880 with a seasonic PSU. long cables though.

That is an interesting question - anyone know of a PSU with shorter than average cables?

p.s. yes, the person is a nubbin as you will notice they bought an ATX mobo for a matx case!!!! LOL! They should've asked me before they went and bought everything!
