Power for tri sli

I was going to build a custom pc with using 3 8800 Ultras (First build ever). The issue is the cards have 2 power sockets on each of them, but all the PSUs seem to only have 2xPCI-Express(6pin) when I need 6. In the specs it has;

2xPCI-Express(6pin)

2xPCI-Express(6+2pin)

2xPhsical Card PCI-E(6pin)

Are the 2xPhsical Card PCI-E(6pin) the same as the 2xPCI-Express(6pin) and is it possible to not use the 2xPCI-Express(6+2pin) without the +2?

Also please dont spend so much money on 3 SLIs .. i know if you wait for PC parts you will never get one but i think your really better wait for the new cards ...

Yeah, I was looking at a Tagan 1.3kW. I was actually leaning towards the 1.5kW thermaltake that was reviewed recently.

I was going to shell out (god help me) for 3 evga black pearls, I've also heard that the 790i chipset is supposed to significantly boost SLI performance over the 780i.

I've got one other question that I was going to ask; the EVGA black pearls have both the ports/threads (for lack of a better word) on the same side, does that leave me enough space to get 1/2" tubing around to the next one?

On some of the other threads I've been looking at the water blocks have one port at the top and one at the bottom leading straight onto the next top port.

I was going to go for a Coolermaster S case by the way.

Nick, I am pretty sure there wont be any problem with the space, however im sure someone else can confirm!

Are you planning to order this now? I really wasent impressed with the 780i board ... maybe its just me but the overclocking on the board was terrible, made me forget about SLI and go with a P35 for now! I'd also wait for 790i to come out and see the difference ...

I was going to wait for a few 790i mobos to come out before I jumped in. Plus I still haven't really finished changing my mind yet xD.

I heard some rumours that the 790i is supposed to be coming out around mid-march.

If i were you, just buy 2 GTS 512mb, those rape. The added heat/cost/hassle of the 3rd Ultra IMO wont be worth the cost.

My personal pref for a tri-sli PSU would be the Thermaltake 1.5kw.

My tagan 1100w does the job, but I used two Molex's as well as 4 PCI-e power's

You wont be able to get the tubing in either... youll have to use this between the cards http://www.aqua-pcs.co.uk/koolance-cnt-vd2-dual-vid-connect-nozzle-2-slot-spacing-1203-p.asp although it means you cant run seperate loops.

IMO wait for the "next gen" cards to come out at least then either those or the 8800GTX will be cheaper.

Then you also have option of tri-sli with the 8800GT or 8800GTS 512 equivalents, or quad-sli while only taking 2 slots.

So much more coming out soon.

I'm holding off at the moment anyway, that's the issue with pcs though. As soon as you jump in, your already outdated.

I benchmarked 3 ultras in the P5N-T Deluxe a while back, we used the Thermaltake ToughPower 1500W PSU however, really don't think tri-sli is worth spending all that money on.

It was a nice setup, but the drivers were buggy at the time (not tested it since so may be better now) and they didn't scale too well.

We had some trouble with the Southbridge on the board getting a bit toasty too - since the 3 cards block most of the surface area of the lower half of the board, restricting airflow.

I was intending to use the Cosmos S with 2 rads and as much possible being watercooling. It always has the big side fan for intake onto the lower part of the motherboard.
